5. Presentations
5.1 Katrina Pyke, Coordinator, Museum
Operations, Pickering Museum Village
Re: Cultural Services Update
K. Pyke provided updates from the Cultural Services
Team regarding various projects and exhibits
focusing on on Pickering’s Black settlers.
Discussion ensued with members discussing:
• the timelines and opportunities for the
Taskforce to view the exhibits in person;
• the timelines and opportunities to engage the
broader community;
• the timelines for the proposed education
program; and,
• concerns around accessibility of the Museum
and whether there is opportunity to provide a
shuttle service to Pickering Museum Village.
5.2 Annette Power & Dave Bosveld
Carea Community Health Program and
Pages for Good
Re: Carea’s Black Community Health
Strategy
D. Bosveld and A. Powers provided a presentation
pertaining to Carea Community Health Centre’s Black
Community Health Strategy, and solicited feedback
from the Taskforce pertaining to Black health issues
in Durham Region.
Discussion ensued with members discussing:
• what factors inform the quality of life for the
Black community in Durham;

• the decision by the Durham Catholic District
School Board to change wording in their Anti-
Racism policy; and,
• opportunities to collaborate and develop a
community of practice or knowledge hub.
5.3 Eleanor McIntosh & Keishia Facey
Durham Region Anti-Racism Task Force
Re: The Collective Community Hub
E. McIntosh and K. Facey provided a presentation
pertaining to The Collective Community Hub.
Discussion ensued with members discussing:
• whether opportunities exist for the Taskforce to
partner with the Community Collective on
community engagement;
• the funding model and costs associated with
this project;
• the organizational structure of the collective;
• the importance of sharing information and
collaboration between community partners;
and,
• the anticipated timelines for this project.

7. Other Business
7.1 CCE Subcommittee Update
A. Fraser provided an update on the Taskforce’s
involvement at the City’s Canada Day Event.
Members discussed the scheduling of members at
the Canada Day booth.
7.2 Inclusive Leadership Governance
Sub-Committee Update
N. Sinclair provided an update regarding the work on
the Taskforce’s Terms of Reference.

7.3 Youth Sub-Committee Update
J-D. Health provided an update pertaining to the
Youth Sub-Committee including the planning of a 3
hour event in early July 2022 relating to the university
experience including application, funding, and
accommodations in collaboration with graduation
coach at Pine Ridge Secondary School.
J. San Antonio provided information about the
Council approval process for this event and the
requirement for a report to Council.
7.4 Communications Sub-Committee Update
K. Lopez provided updates from the Communications
Sub-Committee including the onboarding the digital
marketer, finalizing the communications strategy,
finalizing of the Taskforce logo, promotional and
marketing material, and the content planning for the
Taskforce’s social media channels.
Members further discussed what is needed for the
upcoming Powerfully Informed event happening on
June 16, 2022, including promotional flyers, updating
the website, the creation of an Eventbrite page, and
the new Taskforce email addresses.
7.5 Powerfully Informed Update
Z. Adatia provided an update regarding the
Powerfully Informed event happening on June 16,
2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
F. Heath provided an overview of the Powerfully
Informed survey findings, and next steps on how this
information will be presented and distributed.
7.6 Budget Approval Items
A. Davis provided an update pertaining the budget
including the cost of the digital marketer and the
sourcing of t-shirts.

9. Other Business
9.1 Congratulating Andrea Davis
F. Heath informed the Taskforce that A. Davis has
accepted an employment opportunity in Nova Scotia
and that this will be her last meeting. The Taskforce
congratulated her and thanked her for her service.
A. Davis provided some background on the
opportunity, and thanked the Taskforce for all of their
work.
9.2 Changing the Next Meeting Date
O. Grignon informed the Taskforce that the next
scheduled meeting is September 1, 2022, and asked
whether the meeting should be moved to September
8, 2022.

That the September 1, 2022 scheduled meeting of
the Pickering Anti-Black Racism Taskforce be moved
to September 8, 2022.
