J. St. Amant welcomed members and guests and
called the meeting to order.
2. Review and Approval of Agenda

That the Agenda of the January 18, 2022 meeting of
the Cultural Advisory Committee be approved.

4. Review and Approval of Minutes
- November 16, 2021

That the Minutes of the November 16, 2021 meeting
of the Cultural Advisory Committee be approved.

5. Delegations
5.1 Sarah Douglas-Murray, Director, Community
Services
Re: Introduction to the Committee
S. Douglas-Murray introduced herself and thanked
members of the Committee for their time and service.
6. Other Business & Updates
6.1 Pickering Museum Village Update
L. Gibbs provided updates from the Culture Services
Team including:
recognizing the team for their efforts on a
series of successful events and for ranking 9th
in Ontario for Ontario Culture Days;
an update on the movement and treatment of
artifacts as well as improvements to storage
facilities; and,
new tourism initiatives.
6.2. My Main Street – Community Accelerator
Grant Proposal review & Community Stakeholder
letters of support request
J. St. Amant provided information regarding the
Place4Arts proposal for the My Main Street –
Community Accelerator Grant Program and solicited
members and stakeholder for letters of support and
feedback on elements of the project.
A discussion and question and answer period ensued
between members and J. St. Amant regarding
themes of the project, lighting elements, and involving
the public to help create a mural installation.

J. St. Amant informed the Committee that a decision
on grant funding for this project is expected in June,
and that they will be informed as new information
becomes available.
6.3 Piano Project - Review 2021 program and
request artist/designer references, to commission
the next piano design.
J. St. Amant provided information regarding the Piano
Project in 2021 and solicited the Committee for
recommendations on artists who can take on the
commission of the 2022 piano.
J. St. Amant noted that staff are looking to relocate
the 2021 piano for Black History Month in February.
6.4 2021 CAC Work Plan – Request comments
from the committee on 2021 achievements for
council report
J. St. Amant informed the Committee that he is
soliciting feedback and comments from members on
Committee’s work plan and to send any comments by
the next meeting date of February 15, 2022.
6.5 February committee meeting will be focused
on the final review of the current Cultural
Strategic Plan 2014, and recommendations for a
new cultural plan going forward.
J. St. Amant provided information regarding the City’s
Cultural Strategic Plan and informed members that
their feedback is being solicited for an updated plan.
Members discussed the Pickering Anti-Black Racism
Taskforce and how it can be represented in the City’s
Cultural Strategic Plan.
6.6 Community Banner Program
J. St. Amant provided information on the 2022
Community Banner Program.
Members expressed wanting to involve more amateur
artists and presented the idea of circulating the
request for submissions to local schools. Members
also discussed the creation of separate streams or

categories with different specifications for design
selection.
7. Correspondence
No items of correspondence were noted.
8. Other Business
J. St. Amant informed the Committee about the City’s
Sustainability Design Standards survey that is
available on the Pickering LetsTalk platform.
L. Gibbs informed the Committee that the
nominations are open for the City’s Civic Awards
program until February 10th and that there is a call for
expression of interest for a permanent art installation
at the new Fire Hall.
E. Forde provided information regarding the Cultural
Expressions Black History Month Celebration
happening in February.
N. Holland informed the Committee of her resignation
from the Cultural Advisory Committee and thanked
the other members for their work.
