BY-LAW NO. 5577 /99
A by-law of The Corporation of the Town of
Picketing to levy commercial, industrial and
multi-residential taxes for the year 1999.
WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Durham has passed By-law No. 9-99 to limit tax
reform related property tax increases to 10% in 1998, a further 5% in 1999 and a further 5% in
2000 for industrial, commercial and multi-residential properties in the Region of Durham as
provided for under Division B of Part XXII.2 of the Municipal Act; and,
WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Durham has passed By-law No. 65-98 opting to have
the optional property classes consisting of the office building property class, shopping centre
property class and large industrial property class within the Region of Durham; and,
WHEREAS pursuant to Ontario Regulation 308/99 made under the Education Act provides a
formula for calculating 1999 education tax rates for the commercial and industrial property class;
and,
WHEREAS the Town of Picketing passed By-law No. 5499/99 to provide for the levying of
taxes on residential property as per Schedule A attached; and,
WHEREAS it is necessary for the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing pursuant
to the Municipal Act, to levy on the whole ratable property according to the last revised
assessment roll for The Corporation of the Town of Picketing the sums set forth for various
purposes set out in Schedule A, for the current year; and,
WHEREAS certain regulations require reductions in certain tax rates for certain classes and or
subclasses of property.
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
For the year 1999, there shall be levied and collected upon the commercial, industrial and
multi-residential assessment the rates of taxation per current value assessment for general
purposes as set out in Schedule A, attached hereto.
2. The 1999 taxes owed for the commercial, industrial and multi-residential assessed properties
shall be due in one installment on December 15, 1999 or as adjusted by the Treasurer.
For payment-in-lieu of taxes due to The Corporation of the Town of Picketing, the actual
amount due to The Corporation of the Town of Picketing shall be based on the assessment
roll and the tax rates for the year 1999.
4. The 1999 final tax calculations are based on the frozen assessment listing as of October 15,
1999.
If any section or portion of this By-law is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be
invalid, it is the intent of Council for the Corporation of the Town of Picketing that all
remaining sections and portions of this By-law continue in force and effect.
6. Taxes shall be payable to the Treasurer, Town of Pickering.
7. This By-law comes into force on the date of its final passing.

A by-law of The Corporation of the Town of

multi-residential taxes for the year 1999.
WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Durham has passed By-law No. 9-99 to limit tax
reform related property tax increases to 10% in 1998, a further 5% in 1999 and a further 5% in
2000 for industrial, commercial and multi-residential properties in the Region of Durham as

roll and the tax fates for the year 1999.

1999.
If any section or portion of this By-law is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be
invalid, it is the intent of Council for the Corporation of the Town of Picketing that all
remaining sections and portions of this By-law continue in force and effect.
6. Taxes shall be payable to the Treasurer, Town of Picketing.
7. This By-law comes into force on the date of its final passing.
