Being a by-law to amend By-law Number 2359/87 as amended by
By-law 4784/96 and By-law 4830/96 to provide for the regulating of
parking, standing and stopping on highways or parts of highways under
the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering, and on
private and municipal property.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering enacted By-law 2359/87 on
January 19, 1987 to provide for the regulating of parking, standing and stopping on highways, under the
jurisdiction of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering, and on private and municipal property; and
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to further amend that By-law respecting regulations pertaining to
parking spaces for physically-challenged persons' vehicles;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 12(1) of By-law 2359/87 is amended by adding the following sections:
(a) Section 12(1)(c) "dwelling unit" shall mean one or more habitable rooms occupied or
capable of being occupied as a single, independent and separate
housekeeping unit containing a separate kitchen and sanitary facilities;
(b) Section 12(1)(d) "dwelling" shall mean a building or part of a building containing one or
more dwellir/g units, but does not include a mobile home or trailer;
Section 12(2) of By-law 2359/87 is amended by adding the following sections:
(a) Section 12(2)(a) for the purpose of calculating the required minimum number of designated
parking spaces for multi-unit residential developments consisting of 10 or
more dwelling units, the requirements of section 12(2) shall be applied
only to the visitor parking provided for the development;
(b) Section 12(2)(b) Section 12(2)(a) shall not apply to residential developments consisting of
less than 10 dwelling units;
Section 12(3) of By-law 2359/87 is amended by adding the following section:
(a) Section 12(3)(1) where the Town permits a gravel surfaced parking space, each designated
space shall be;
(i) identified with a precast bumper curb across the entire width of the
designated parking space, painted a bright blue and securely
anchored in place;
(ii) subject to the provisions of Section 12(3) (b) through (i), inclusive.
Section 12(3)(a) of By-law 2359/87 is hereby deleted and the following is substituted therefore:
(a) hard surfaced and be painted with a non-slip paint in bright blue for the entire surface, with the
universal symbol of access overlaid in white or yellow paint;
Section 12(3)(d) of By-law 2359/87 is hereby amended by substituting the number 5.3 for the
number 5.4.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 19 day of October, 1998.
