BY-LAW NUMBER 4784/96
Being a by-law to amend By-law Number 2359/87 to provide
for the regulating of parking, standing and stopping on
highways or parts of highways under the jurisdiction of the
Corporation of the Town of Picketing an on private and
municipal property.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering enacted By-law
2359/87 on January 19, 1987 to provide for the regulating of parking, standing and
stopping on highways or pa~s of highways under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the
Town of Picketing an on private and municipal property; and
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to amend that By-law to provide regulations
respecting parking spaces for physically handicapped persons' vehicles;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. Section 12(3) of By-law 2359/87 is hereby deleted and the following is substituted
therefore:
(3) Each designated parking space shall be,
(a) hard surfaced and be painted a bright blue, with the universal
symbol of access overlaid in white or yellow paint;
(b) level;
(C) a minimum width of four metres;
(d) a minimum length of 5.4 metres;
(e) a minimum vertical clearance of 2.75 metres;
(f) located so sidewalks, paths, etc., will be accessible to physically
handicapped persons whether via ramps, aisles, depressed curbs, or
other appropriate means without requiring a person to pass behind
parked cars or cross a traffic lane;
(g) located with sufficient clearance around the vehicle in terms of
other vehicles or obstacles such as light standards, waste
receptacles, etc. to permit fxee access by a wheelchair;
(h) identified by the official sign as defined in Section 11 of Regulation
581 of the Highway Traffic Act. This sign shall be mounted with
the base of the sign no less than 1.7 metres and no more than 2.0
metres above grade.
(i) located in a place approved by the Town's Director of Plannlng.
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 21th day of May, 1996.
