1. Adoption of Minutes
The minutes of the March 8th, 2001 Waterfront Coordinating Committee Meeting
were adopted.
2. Delegations
Lorna Rowley—Pickering Civitan Club
—addressed committee with respect to her interest in a scented `blind' garden along
the waterfront
-she stated that it would be good for blind and would like to personally make a
contribution to it in coordination with the Civitan Club and other partners in memory
of late husband
-Mark Holland recommended that she speak to the Horticultural society. —Craig
Bamford noted that it would be best on the west side—suggested that he she also
work with Rotary club—in keeping with natural theme of the Rotary Park Area—
David Green of Rotary indicated that he would be pleased to work with her
Larry Field - TRCA
-made a presentation on the Duffins Creek Marsh Restoration Action Plan.

-Tom Mohr confirmed that the meadow areas are going to maintained and improved
as a part of the initiative

Gary Peck
— wished to advise committee that the Hiltz application is moving well
— referenced that there was a hitch at Durham Region with the servicing of sewers
but he believes that it will be addressed shortly
— stated that construction is expected on Hiltz development to begin with the first
block of 6 this summer—followed quickly by 5 blocks then final 6. Drawings
were presented for committee information.
— Tom Mohr questioned parking and was informed that it was public (either paid or
free).
— Neil Carroll stated that new condo act allows owners to control whether or not the
parking will be paid. The shop houses in question are freehold but land is a
cooperative which means that owners will have control of property around the
buildings.
Pat O'Brien— Ontario Power Generation
-made a presentation on the windmill that is being considered for Alex Robertson
Park for power generation. (see attached presentation).
3. Waterfront Signage
A presentation was made as an update with the stated intention that a more detailed
report is to be given at the next meeting of Committee.
4. Millennium Waterfront
-Mark Holland gave an update on construction status of phase II of the project
-Miwel broke ground on phase II on April 12, 2001
- the work is scheduled to be completed by June 8, 2001 (the start of the Frenchman's
Bay Festival
5. Liverpool South Design Study
-a reminder of the public meeting dates was given
-Craig Bamford stated Bronte should be considered in the design elements; Marina
Del Ray in Etobicoke is also a good example of a public private partnership that
might also work in LPS area. Craig also referenced Port Credit as another good area
to look at.
-Mark Holland commented that the process is moving along well and that Phase 1 and
2 have brought the whole concept of development far from where it was in this area.
6. Storm Water Management
-report to be given by David Steele at May meeting.
-Break wall and harbour entrance discussion also to take place by next meeting —
Nick Eyles, Bernie Luttmer Harold Hough invited to attend by David Steele and
Craig Bamford
7. Western Bridge
-Update with slides to be given at May meeting by the Director of Operations
8. Other Business
a. -Jim Dyke mentioned Take Pride In Pickering Day events—(flyer detailing events
on April 28th attached)
-David Green—mentioned that 150 scouts would be coming out to clean Rotary
Park on May 12th
-Larry Field mentioned that Kristina Patte should be made aware of and perhaps
participate in the May 12 date.
b. -Tom Mohr spoke on the telling of the three trail stories, and progress of
discussions with the 1st nations groups on the 1St nation trail and on Edward
Falkenburg's sculpture. He met today with the Missassaugas and the meeting
went very well. Also met with Iroquois, Tom Hill really liked 1st nations trail and
other elements—liked a turtle as the symbol. Tom Hill will provide a letter of
support. Design of turtle comes off of the petroglyphs in Peterborough. —. Tom
also stated that he has talked to the Scuggogs and will meet with their band
council in the very near future. The turtle image was very well received. Mark
recognized Tom for all of his work in this area. (image attached and report also

c. —Bernie Luttmer invited committee members to the Swans Marina open house on
April 20, 21 & 22
9. Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Waterfront Bistro
