A meeting of Pickering Township Council was held on MONDAY, the
ELEVENTH day of ~, 1962, atETGHT o'clock in the even~ng.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was considered:
1. Metro Toronto Planning Board apprç>ves name 9f "Cherry Downs
Road."
2. Mr. J. Myles Leckie. President of Pickering Golf Club, asked
permiss~on ~o appear before Council to discuss the condition
of the Brock Road and the increase of his taxes from $2,400.00
to $2,970.00. Resolution No. 182/62.
3. Department of Highways of Ontario submits a report on inter-
sect~on at H~ghway 2 and Wh~te's Road. They feel that sight lines
on Highway 2 are fairly good but they recommend a larger "Stop"
sign on White's Road. The illumination request has been for-
warded to district office for consideration.
Clerk ask for larger "Stop" sign.
4. W. B. White Insurance Limited is anxious to point out that
Townsh~p ~s not covered by ~nsurance for boiler explosions in
either water or sewer plants. They feel that under required
Provincial inspections. there is small chance of such damage.
Three year premium on $250.000.00, boiler insurance. and
$25,000.00 machinery insurance. $3.574.97.

13. W. G.Lawson advises our Solicitors that the Township is
installing a sewage system on Block C. Plan 276. and that if
his client's right-of-way is cut off. he will ask for com-
pensation.
Mrs. Kearsley-Brown, past secretary of "Pic-Ax Players"
advises that she has been expelled from the group and now
turns her books over to the Township. Mr. Ashton delivered
them to the new secretary.

Regional Planning Worksho~ Banquet, Knox Presbyterian Church
Hall, Georgetown, June 28 h from 7 p. m. Tickets, $2.00.
Dr. H. B. Mayo, Professor Political Science. Western University,
will speak on planning. Clerk will secure tickets if requested.
Building' Tns'pector' s Report:
115 permits for month of May. Estimated value, $1,262,200,00,
including 90 dwellings averaging $12,900.00.

17. The Reeve of Pickering Village advises that Pickering Village
F~re Department w~11 provide fire service as agreed until new
agreement is prepared by them and signed.

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. On MOTION of Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Greening,
Mr. W. K. Cherry was heard.
Mr. W. K. Cherry asked that Sideline between Lots 14-15,
Concess~on ö. be named Cherry Downs Road, so as to be more
easily identified as the road to their new gOlf course in
Concession 7, Lots 13. and 14. See Resolution No. 184/62.
2. On MOTION of Mr. Greening, seconded by Mr. Wank, Mr. J.
Myles Leckie was heard.
Mr. J. M~les Leckie stated that due to the almost impassable
con~ì~ìon or Brock Road he is not getting enough customers
to his golf course to pay the $2,970.00 yearly tax, so asked
that he be given some relief on his 1962 tax.
Council felt they could not reduce taxes, but did pass a res-
olution asking the County to keep Brock Road reasonably passable.

3. On MOTION of Mr. Wank, seconded by Mr. Deakin, Mr. Kay was
heard.
Mr. Kay again asked for a wrecking yard licence at Concession 2,
Lot 21, 6 acres.

Council took no action, but Mr. Wank agreed to inspect Mr. Kay's
Toronto site of operations.
Reeve Scott reporteci that Consolidated Building Corporation had
moved equ~pment onto one of the parks in Bay Ridges. and it was
expected such park would be levelled on June 12th.
Councillor Deakin reported that the Fire Chief had secured prices
on an emergency truck.
4. On MOTION Messrs. Alex. Michael and Norman Picov were heard re
water s~te expropriation.
They submitted an agreement whereby Council. on behalf of
Consolidated Building Corporation, would pay them $32,500.00
instead of $20,000.00 for the 10 acres, plus a number of
incidentals.
However. as our solicitors submitted a letter from the solicitors
for Consolidated Building Corporation, advising that they would
not pay more than the $20,000.00 paid into Court two years ago,
when land was expropriated. It was impossible to reach an
agreement.
Messrs. Picov then asked for free water for their livestock, and
that Township repair. easterly. his road fence. See Resolution
No. 185/62 and Resolution No. 186/62.

be and is hereby authorized to sell to ratepay~rs any fill
from Township roads which the Township cannot economically
fill to be sold at a price of $1.00 per load.

RESOLUTION NUMBER 182/62
MOV~D by Mr. Mowbray, seconded by Mr. Spang, that the County of Ontario
be advised that this Council protests strongly against the conditions which
have prevailed on the Brock Road during the past two weeks, with
particular reference to the fact that portions of the road have from
time to time been almost impassable to many cars by reason of loose
sand and large stones, and that the County be requested to take
immediate steps to improve this situation. CARRIED

BY-LAW NUMBER 2696 (Third Reading)
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2696 to authorize the
purchase of the lands described in Schedule "An hereto annexed and
to borrow money upon debentures therefor the sum of $80,500.00,
arises and reports the By-Law'as rèad.
Mr. Mowbray. seconded by Mr. SpanS, moves that the report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2696 be adopted, and that
the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the
Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be
affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2703
Mr. Greening, seconded by Mr. Mowbray, moves for leave to introduce
a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to acquire a right in the nature
of an easement over certain lands in the Township of Pickering for
the construction, operation and maintenance of a forcemain sewer and
works, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Greening, seconded by Mr. Spang, moves that By-Law Number 2703
to acquire a right in the nature of an easement over certain lands
in the Township of Pickering for the construction, operation and
maintenance of a forcemain sewer and works, be now read a second
time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Greening, seconded by Mr. Deakin, moves that the report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2703 be adopted, and that the
said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed

By-Law of the Township of ~ickering to appoint two Warble Fly
Inspectors for the year 1962 (Orville Cox and Mervin Mason), and
that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mr. Spang, moves that By-Law Number 2704
to appoint two warble fly inspectors for the year 1962, be now
read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
