The Minutes of .eeting held May 3, 1954, were read, and on Motion
of Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, adopted. £.ARRIED
The Minutes of Emergent Meeting held May 4, 1954, were read, and on
Motion of Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, adopted. CARRIED
The Minutes of Emergent Meeting held May 10, 1954, were read, and on

could be paid at Police Office without going to Court.

License. Mr. Newman to make inquiries.
Ratepayers petition Valley Farm Road, asking for thirty miles
speed limit. Thirteen houses east side, 10 houses west side,
on 1578 feet.

The followingi'~_on MOTIOH, were heard:
1. Stmley MaDD - (l) wanted sideline between Lots 4 and 5 opened
from Pickering Beach to Concession 1. (2) Complained about
Ajax people taking gravel fro. Beach on Road Allowance. (3)
Asked for a new subdivision in south half of Lot 5, Concession
B.F. R.) of about 16 acres. Advised he must have Municipal'
water.

F. J. Prouse reported certain trailers in Township: (1) Roult
Subdivision. (2) Ryder. (3) Anderson. (4) North-East of
Spruce Hill Road. Clerk notify Police to charge and if they
refuse, have charged.
Mr. Bruno, 69 Munroe Street, Gladstone 4103, stated he was
manufacturing cheese in a garage in Concession 5, Lot 2, and
asked permission to live in it, say the odd night or week-ends.
Messrs. Kirton and Brown, Concession 7, Lot 34, asked that the
Markham Town Line and Eighth Concession be oiled. Council told
them that two bags calcium was being laid in front of each
dwelling (within 200 feet of road) and that the oiling of Town
Line would be discussed with Markham Council for 1955.
Deputy-Reeve Balsdon reported:

He had contacted Mr. Straughan, Road Engineer, Township of
Scarborough, and he agreed that they would clean out east
ditch of Scarborough Townline from Lake to Highway 401, and
put in the necessary culverts.
He and Councillor Newman had agreed that the cinder path from
Highway 2 to Concession 1, Altona Road, should be on east side
of road near the fence, except in one low spot where it would
be Bear the pavement for 50 feet.
He and Councillor Newman had agreed that the cinder walk on
Fairport Road north should be on the west side near fence
except a part near property of Mr. Benn, where it would be
Bear the pavement.
Mr. Ward had been asked to ask for Tenders for both cinder
paths. Council pay 40% and have ready for September 1, 1954.
AGREED that Markham Townline between Concession 5 and aighway 7 be
prepared for hard top.

MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that this Council
now form itself into a Court of Revision to sit on any appeals
that may be brought before it. CARRIED
1. 'Mr. Stanley Mann who had appealed 50 lots in Plan 525 on 1953 -
1954 Assessment was heard. Mr. Mann stated that all these lots
were rented and farmed in 1953 and 1954, and should be assessed
on farm lands basis.
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that all lands
appealed by Mr. Mann and farmed be assessed at farm land rates.

Mr. H. A. Newman, appealed 206 lots in Plan 345 for 1953 - 1954
Assessment of '9,600.00. Mr. Newman claimed that part of these
lots were used for farm purposes and should be assessed at farm
rates.
MOVED by Mr. Michell, selonded by Mr. Balsdon, that all of Mr.
Newman's lots used as farm lands be assessed at farm rates,
namely, Lots 57 to 78 ($2,200.00 Assessmeot), Lot. 119 to 128
($1,000.00 Assessment! Lots 131 to 134 ($450.00 Assessment)
and Lots 135 to 141 (.350.00 Assessment). CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, that assessment on all
other lots of Mr. H. A. Newman be sustained. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, that the assessment
on H. A. Newman lots assessed at farm rate shall be . 100.00 per
acre. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. lewman, seconded by Mr. Michell, that the Court of
Revision do now adjourn to be reconvened by the Chairman at a later
date. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Council accept
agreement with ratepayers in Rosebank to take over eertain.r~ads at
an estimated cost of '1,684.92 or less. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, that bulldozer make
a path to lake at foot of sideline between lots 30 and 31. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that Valley Farm Road
from No. 2 Highway to Concession 2 line be declared a "built-up
area" and that 30-mile per hour signs for speed be erected. CARRIED
KOVED by Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon that sideline between
Lots 8 and 9 from No. 2 Highway to north limit of Plan 401 be
declared a "built-up area" and that 30-mile per hour signs for
speed be erected. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson that Pine Ridge Road
from Rougemount south along Crescent Road and Dyson Road to Old
Rosebank Road be declared a "built-up area" and that 30-miles per
hour sign for speed be erected. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Newman,: seconded by Mr. Lawson that I$land Road
opposite Lot 34 be declared a -built-up area" and that 30-mile per
hour signs for speed be erected. CARRIED
AGREED that Mr. Newman investigate Mr. Finnigan, Concession 1,
Lot 5, for Kennel License.
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Township Dump
be closed to the Public except Wednesday and Saturday, 12 noon to
8 P. M. and that Jfilliam Jackson supervise the dump, . without
remuneration, keep clèan and rubbish pushed back. CARRIED

Contact Markham Township Clerk to see if they will oil or
calcium Townline north of No. 7 in front of dwellings, and if
they will oil the entire road in 1955.

are taking over, free, because they were not authorized.

Find out how garbage areas are financed - if any provision for
a straight charge per house.
Advertise in Pickering News and Fairport Beach local paper that
dogs may not run at large.
Have a number of signs printed -Dump Open- certain times only
and posted throughout: the Township. Two large steel "No Dumping"
signs near dump.

Standing Committee on LIVESTOCK, as just read, be adopted.

order on the Treasurer to pay the several accounts as presented and
passed in the various reports as passed this day. CARRIED

Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to re-locate the Polling Sub-
divisions of the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that By-Law No. 2015 to
re-locate the Polling Subdivisions of the Township of Pickering be now
read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole
thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2015 be adopted, and that the
said By-Law be now read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW HUMBER 2016
Mr. Balsdon seconded by Mr. Newman, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law to regulate the erection and to provide for the safety of
buildings, and that same now be read a first tilae.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that By-Law No. 2016 to
regulate the erection and to provide for the safety of buildings, be
now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.
The Committee of tàe Whole then arose and reported.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2016 be adopted, and that the
said By-Law be now read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that this meeting do now
adjourB to meet &gain on MONDAY, the 5th day of JULY, 1954, at 10
