PICKERING TOWNSHIP MUSEUM COMMITTEE
. OCTOBER 25, 1966
The regular meeting of the Pickering Township Museum Committee was held on
TUESDAY,- the TWENTY-FIFTH day of OCTOBER, 1966, at the old municipal
building, Brougham, at 8 o'clock p. m.

MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Parkin, that minutes of
previous meetings on September 27 and October 12, 1966, be adopted. CARRIED
Museum Workshop
Delegates to the Museum Workshop held at Barrie on Oct. 20 - 22, Mrs.
Hay and Mrs. Storry, reported on museum matters considered- at the convention
and described tour which included Fort Ste. Marie, Huronia, Collingwood,
Simcoe County museums and other historical points of interest.
MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Miss Anderson, that convention expenses
for the Museum Workshop held at Barrie October 20 to October 22, in the
amount of $25.50 each, be paid Mrs. Ruth Hay and Mrs. Elsa Storry. CARRIED
Centennial Project
Mrs. McPherson reported that Mr. Anderson, of the Roatary Club, made a
strong appeal to this organization on behalf of the museum.
Secretary requested to write owner of lot in Iowa, asked for reply to last
letter and for a definite price for lot at rear of museum. Letter to be
sent by registered mail.

oithving buildings to the museum grounds.
Secretary requested to apply for old municipal building for Centennial year
as a Centennial project; particularly for storage of perishable articles
rat such as documents, maps, books, diaries, pictures, deeds, instruments, etc.,
and that one or two rooms be set up in display.
Mrs. McPherson will ask assessor to survey posts for old church when ready.
MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mrs. Hay that Sherman LiscoMbo be hired
to dig post holes for the church. CARRIED
Mrs. McPherson agreed to see the developer of the former Newman property
about removal of the barn.
Mr. Miller reported on his attempt to interest service clubs in removing
barns and to be paid for it to assist them with their projects. He said
that Mount Zion Community Club was interested, but otherwise no definite
response.

AGREED that because of the difference in appraisals by Mr. Hepditch and
Mr. McDaniel O.L.S. for the barn donated by the Metro Conservation Authority,
L the former being 5100, and the latter $1,500, that Mr. Hepditch be asked to
reconsider his appraisal to the amount of $500, which would bring the buildings^
to the full amount of the grant.
LMr. Miller was authorized to arrange- buildings in the 1900 era lot to house
stationary gas engines, gas tractors, steam engines, with boiler and saw mill,
and garage with gas pump, cars and tools, etc.
Mr. Miller reported that Mr. Harrison was tied up until about Christmas time,
when he would move all the buildings.
L AGREED that a budget be submitted to council, such as other committees
present, to cover the maintenance of the museum.
LThe plan for the pioneer village was studied, and Mr. Miller reported that
Mr. E. Pegg offered a steel wind mill if desired, and Mr. Alex Gray had
offered a wooden wind mill tower driven by wind power.
LSecretary directed to write Administrator of School Area 1 requesting school
bell from Mt. Pleasant School and papers, maps and records from all of the
C old vacated schools in Area 1. Mrs. McPherson agreed to discuss this with
Chairman Mrs. McKean, since it is the wish of the board to make displays
from artifacts in old schools.
Secretary instructed to write to County Clerk W. G. Manning, asking if
reproductions of old Pickering and W�zitby Township maps may be displayed •
and sold in the County Building.
Secretary instructed to write Mrs. Christine Thomas, asking if reproductions
of old Pickering and Whitby Township maps may be displayed and sold in
LOshawa City Hall.
On motion of Miss Anderson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, the meeting adjourned.
