A meeting of the Pickering Township
Museum Board was held on TUESDAY,
the ELEVENTH day of MAY, 1971 at
EIGHT p.m. at the Museum Grounds in
Brougham
PRESENT: Mr. H. Cook, Chairman
Mr. W. Clark
Mr. R. Freeman
Mr. M. Parkin
Mgr. D. McLean
Mr. R. Miller
Mr. W. Earle
Mrs. D. Earle
Mrs. R. Hay
Mr. N. Marshall, Secretary
1. Progress - Renovation -
The chief purpose in meeting at the property was to review
the progress that had been made in the renovation of the
buildings and to determine the priorities for the coming
season. In this regard the group inspected each building
and gave their approval to a number of projects suggested
by the Administrator, Mr. Miller.
2. Documentation - Museum -
The Chairman distributed for the attention of the Board
copies of a cash flow sheet indicating inventory and
attendance together with a monthly summary sheet. It
was agreed that the sheets be adopted in their existing
form and that after the existing stock is exhausted the
format used is to be reviewed.
.-
3. Relocation of Display Items -
It was suggested that serious consideration could be given
to locating a large number of non parishable display items
to the Masonic Hall thus freeing the school house for
specialized displays and displays requiring some degree
of temperature control. It was noted that such a relocation
of displays would depend in large measure on the timing of
the re-glazing of the windows in the Masonic Hall. Noting
that the hall was to include a display of old stoves, the
majority of the members acknowledged the validity of the
proposal.
In this regard it was suggested that the Board meet at
the Museum property on May the 26th at 7:00 p.m. with a
view towards relocating a number of these displays and
carrying out related work projects.

4. Education Classes -
Mr. Parkin mentioned that Mrs. Bryant of the Hiawatha
Spinners had indicated an interest in teaching a spinning
class at the Museum property during the summer. This
class would consist of five students who would have to
supply their own spinning wheel. Mrs. Bryant would require
$100. for her services and this amount would be recovered
from the students. The idea behind the thought was that
it would make available for special projects skilled
spinners and contribute to the general interest in the
property. It was suggested that perhaps the class could
be conducted in the balcony of the Masonic Hall.
5. Administrators Report -
Mr. Miller reported that Mr. Hope would be starting work
on the property sometime in the next ten days. Much of
what had been discussed earlier in the evening with
respect to a number of the buildings would be accomplished
at that time.
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Clark the underground wiring
had been installed during the past couple of weeks and
Mr. Carruthers was arranging for the connection to the
various buildings as time permitted.
6. Ajax Flower Show -
,d Mr. Freeman advised the Board of the display that had
been arranged as a result of the request from those
responsible for the Ajax Flower Show. He acknowledged
the short notice that was given by those responsible for
the show but expressed disappointment at the lack of
support received from some members of the Board when
asked to assist with the display. He noted in particular
the fact that on two occassions there was no member of
the Board in attendance at the show to speak with the
members of the public. He hoped that in future such
attempts to publicize the activities of the Museum Board
..1
would enjoy more support.
7. Souvenirs -
, Mrs. Earle showed the Board the type of items that were
available from the G. Plitz Company for re-sale purposes.
She asked for and was given authority to secure a number
of these items for re-sale purposes at the Museum property.
On motion the meeting adjourned.
