the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-law Numbers
4095/92, 4123/92, 4130/92, 4131/92, 4132/92, 4133/92, 4134/92,
4135/92, 4136/92, 4137/92, 4138/92 and 4139/92 be adopted and
the said by-laws be now read a third time and PASSED and that
the Mayor and Clerk sign the same and the seal of the
Corporation be affixed thereto.

OTHER BUSINESS
1.
Councillor Van Kempen requested a report from the
Director of Planning on the current status of the
zoning and land use designation for the third phase of
the Tridel lands and what process would be involved in
initiating an Official Plan amendment to lower the
density allowed on these lands.

2.
Councillor Brenner requested that a letter from the
Minister of Citizenship and Culture be forwarded to
the Race Relations Committee.
3.
Councillor Brenner reported that he received a letter
from Denis 0 'Connor High School requesting that the
Town place a student to work with the Race Relations
Committee as part of their co-op program. Staff was
asked to determine if such placement was possible.
4.
Councillor Higdon reported that the Ontario Nurses
Association has stated at a news conference that there
is a dangerous shortage of staff at the Ajax/Pickering
Hospital.
5.
Councillor Wellman stated that as a member of the
Board of Directors of the Ajax/Pickering Hospital, no
patient is at risk at the hospital.

of Pickering at its meeting held on the 21st day December, 1992
and that the same be now finally passed and that the Mayor and
Clerk sign the same and that the Seal of the Corporation be
thereto affixed.

5.
COUNCIL REMUNERATION
FILE NUMBER - A 2110
WHEREAS the Council of the Corpora tion of the Town of
Pickering established a Task Force for the purpose of
preparing a report on remuneration and benefits for
Members of Council in 1990; and
8
WHEREAS one of the recommendations of that Task Force was
-that a citizens committee review these salaries every
three years, and that the second year of the term would
provide the most politically neutral time for these
considerations. Furthermore, it is recommended that the
committee have three members so as to avoid an impasse in
decision making-;
NOW THEREFORE a public Task Force be established for the
purpose of preparing a report on remuneration and benefits
for Members of Council; and
that this report include recommendations for the
remuneration and benefits to be payable and/or available
to Members of Council for the periods of December 1, 1991
to November 30, 1994; and
that the Task Force be comprised of three persons with one
person recommended by Council, one person selected from
submissions by the local ratepayer associations and one
person selected from applications from the public as a
result of advertising; and
that the Town Clerk be directed

1993 ANIMAL CONTROL BUDGET

That Council approve the 1993 Animal Control budget as set

the Pickering, Ajax and Whitby Joint Animal Control
Committee at its meeting of November 25,1992.

HERITAGE DISTRICT PLAN BY TWO MONTHS

Whereas The Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Pickering passed Resolution 1120/92 on August 4, 1992 to
provide for the circulation of draft By-law 4074/92 to
designate a portion of the hamlet of Whitevale as a
Heritage Conservation District; and
Whereas this Resolution provided for the establishment of
a citizens' committee to review the Hamlet of Whitevale
Heritage Conservation District Plan and submit comments on
it to the Town Clerk on or before September 18,1992; and

Whereas this citizens' committee has requested a second
extension of this deadline in order to satisfactorily
review the District Plan and the Guidelines, make
recommendations and submit the finds;
Now Therefore the Council of the Corporation of the Town
of Pickering hereby amends Resolution #120/92, as amended,
as follows:
1.
In Sections 1 and 3, the deadline to submit comments
on draft By-law 4074/92 shall be changed from
December 18,1992 to February 19,1993;

WHEREAS the Greater Toronto Area is the economic engine of
growth for the Province of Ontario; and
WHEREAS it is to all municipalities' and regions' benefit
to ensure that the Greater Toronto Area be considered a
strategic location for business and investment;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town
of Pickering hereby supports the principle of cooperation
across the Greater Toronto Area in economic development
activities.

That the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Pickering hereby commits $5,000 to the Economic
Development Marketing Task Force of the GTA Mayors'
Committee to participate in a trade show as part of the

the Economic Development Division Account 2192.
