2.
Fred Beer, representing the Pickering Rural
Association addressed Council with respect to the sale
of surplus airport lands. He thanked council for
théir support of Planning Report 6/93. He stated that
new homes would bring more children to already
overcrowded schools. Care should be taken for those
tenants who cannot afford to purchase. The Federal
Government should not consider selling to the highest
bidder. He suggested that the decision be deferred.
3.
Rene Soetens, M.P., Ontario Riding addressed Council
with respect to the sale of surplus airport lands. In
1987 the intention to sell lands was announced and in
1992 the Minister of Finance announced that the
Federal Government was ready to proceed with the
sale. At that time no objections to the sale were
received. It was never the intent of the Federal
Government to sell to the highest bidder but to give
priority to long-term tenants or previous owners. He
stated that as long as the lands are owned by the
Federal Government, Pickering has no say over land
use. The Town would be better served if these lands
were taken over by the Town.

Whereas the Province of Ontario has set a goal to cut water

Whereas any reduction in the amount of water consumed also
