SPECIAL CO UN CIL MEETING
A Special Meeting of the Pickering Town Council was held on Tuesday, September 8,
1998 at 10:30 p.m.

AUTHORITY TO MEET IN CAMERA
Resolution #183/98
Moved by Councillor Ryan
Seconded by Councillor Holland
That pursuant to Section 55(7) of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, c MAS, as amended,
the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering hereby resolves to conduct a
meeting to consider a matter of litigation, personnel and a land transaction.

Resolution #185/98
Moved by Councillor Dickerson
Seconded by Councillor Holland
That staff be authorized to undertake proposals on both portions of the Priest property.
CARRIED
1.
The General Manager advised Council on Personnel issues.
2.
Councillor Dickerson commented on the matter regarding Conservation
Easements.
3.
The Town Solicitor advised Council of the lawsuit in which Councillor Johnson
has been named as a participant.
Councillor Johnson declared an interest as he has been named in the lawsuit
as a participant

Seconded by Councillor Pickles
That an expenditure not to exceed $5,000 be approved to cover the cost of Councillor
Johnson's defence with respect to Richard Ward's appeal of Council' s decision with
respect to a Compliance Audit.

OTHER BUSINESS
1.
The General Manager requested volunteers from the Members of Council
to sit on the Civic Awards Selection Committee. Councillors Ryan,
Johnson Dickerson and Mayor Arthurs indicated their interest.
2.
Councillor Johnson advised that the Family Fall Festival is scheduled for
October 4th from 11 :00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
3.
Councillor Pickles advised that he was in receipt of a request from the
Kinsmen Club, sponsoring a new Air Cadel Squadron, for a grant to offset
the cost of the rental of a room at the Don Beer Arena.

Seconded by Councillor Pickles
That the request received from the Kinsmen Club concerning a grant to
offset the cost to the Air Cadel Squadron in Pickering for the rental of a
room at the Don Beer Arena for one night a month for the next ten months
be approved.
CARRIED
4.
Councillor Pickles advised that he has received a number of complaints
concerning the difficulty being experienced in reaching by-law officers.
5.
Councillor Johnson requested a status report on the Family Action Youth
Centre.
