PMV Collections Committee Report October 2015
The Collections Committee met on October 26, 2015. Our normal meeting night had
to be rescheduled due to Thanksgiving.
Deaccession:
A number of items that have been considered for deaccession was prepared by Ellen
and reviewed by the committee. Many of the items are in poor condition or
damaged, have no provenance, are only pieces of a larger item that no longer exists
in our collection or was previously deaccessioned. The committee approved all items
on the list for deaccession. The list is attached with photos where available.
Motion:
That the PMV Advisory Committee approves the items recommended by the
Collections Subcommittee for deaccession from the Core Collection and that
following that approval the deaccession list is forwarded to Council for their approval.
Accession:
A number of artifacts were reviewed for consideration of accession into the collection.
The details are provided in the attached acquisitions list. All items, with the exception
of those contained within 2015.6 from Anne Baun, were approved by the
subcommittee for accession into the Core Collection.
The only items in 2015.6 approved for accession are the bin of photographs, papers
and letters. These items were already approved by the PMV Advisory Committee at
the June 23 meeting. This group has been included in the document as there were
several items (the table and both trunks) that were deferred for further research
before making a determination. That research has been completed and based on
the results those items are not desired for our collection.
Motion:
That the PMV Advisory Committee approves the artifacts recommended by the
Collections Subcommittee for accession into the Core Collection.
The remainder of our meeting was dedicated to discussing this year’s progress on
the strategic plan and some possible anomalies uncovered in the prioritization
project. Further work is require on both items and will be considered at our next
meeting in November.
