D. Shields welcomed everyone and provided a list of attendees
to Security.
2. Review and Approval of Minutes
Moved by K. Falconer
Seconded by Councillor O'Connell
That the minutes of the May 28, 2014 meeting be approved.

3. Canada Day Event
D. Marlowe gave a brief overview of the event setup for the
Canada Day celebrations. He noted that this year washroom
facilities were located throughout the park and also noted that
there were about 30 accessible parking spots designated in the
parking lot. He stated that he would be walking around the site
during the event and noting how the event met the Accessibility
Standards and any concerns that will need to be addressed in

the future. He stated that he was working on an accessible
check list for outdoor events and stated that the band Morrison
Hawkes being sponsored by the Committee would be playing at
the Family Stage around 2:00 pm.
4. Accessibility Advisory Committee's Publications D. Marlowe
D. Marlowe gave draft copies of the Committee's revised
brochure for review and comments. He noted that comments

should be returned to him within the next month sot at the
brochure can be approved for printing at the September
meeting.
D. Shields noted that if there were any additional comments
regarding the Builder brochure they needed to be submitted

within the next two weeks in order for a report to go to Council
in September for approval.
5 Proclamation for International Day of Persons with D. Shields
Disabilities- December 3, 2014
D. Shields noted that they would be submitting an application to To be placed on
the Mayor's Office to proclaim December 3, 2014 as September Agenda -
International Day of Persons with Disabilities. International Day of

D. Hughes suggested that the Committee set up a table at City Disabilities Event
Hall and promote the day and the Committee. D. Shields noted Discussion

P. Bashaw gave a brief outline on the funding opportunities
available to Municipalities and questioned whether the City
had any projects that applications could be submitted for.
D. Marlowe was looking into any projects that were ready and
might benefit from the funding opportunities.
Questions were asked regarding the tactile projects, curb cuts
and the City's guidelines being used. D. Marlowe noted that
the City was already using the Accessibility Standard for the
Design of Public Spaces. He stated that he would send the
Committee an excerpt from the Illustrated Technical Guide to
the Accessibility Standard for the Design of Public Spaces. He
noted that it shows how lowered or depressed curbs should be
configured and how tactile walking surface indicators (TWSI)
should be used.

Councillor O'Connell noted that she had attended a very
interesting event put on by Rotary at Work. She stated that this
group put sessions on for organizations and businesses to
explain the benefits and the importance of hiring people with
disabilities. It was the consensus of the Committee that we look
into conducting an event with this organization in the next term.
Next Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
