1. Altona Mennonite Church & Cemetery
Gail Sussman and John Ota from the Ministry met with LACAC and
trustees of the Altona Church to review progress to date and
clarify future directions. The meeting took place at the
cemetery, in order that Gail might point out specifically what the
Ministry feels are priorities at this time, using actual stones as
examples.
Gail discussed various problems typical to a older cemetery such
as acid, salt, alignment, ponding, etc. For details on remedies
she referred to a kit that was made available at the LACAC
Conference in Peterborough in June.

Gail identified certain situations as priorities, stones in
ground, stones out of plumb, and problem stones. She suggested a
sub-committee be formed consisting of several LACAC members and
trustees to formulate an action plan. The group discussed ideas
for fundraising including offering walking tours, rubbings, and
rental of the church for weddings.
Gail commended those who had done work on the cemetery for their
dedication and openness to learning new effective methods for
restoration.
2. Hugh Miller Application
The committee felt the need for a more detailed breakdown of the
estimate submitted to Mr. Miller by Mr. Devitt in order to assure
that certain specifications be met.
• Kim will visit the property to confirm what work needs to be done.
3. Red Cross Church
Mr. Koziol, of Totten, Sims, Hubicki contacted Anna to inquire
whether LACAC had any interest in the Red Cross Church which must
be moved or demolished. The Committee suggested that a letter be
sent to Mr. Koziol suggesting that he could either pursue a buyer
by offering the building for sale for a dollar, or sell it for
recycled brick.
2. Other Business
a) William Zeyl of Marshall, Macklin, Monaghan contacted Anna
regarding the Class Environmental Assessment of the Finch
Ave. corridor the firm is conducting for the Region. He
requested the assistance of LACAC in providing information
of heritage sites and other features of significance, and,
in particular, that a LACAC member accompany him on a survey
of the area. Frank volunteered to go, and Konrad will
attend if possible.

regarding the designation of Whitevale. A letter will be
sent to Noel Marshall requesting that LACAC be advised of
relevant issues coming forward at Council. The committee
will support exclusions studied on a property-by-property
basis. It was requested that a proposal be made to Council
to direct Tim Sheffield to contact the O.M.B. to postpone
the hearing so that LACAC can arrange a meeting with the
consultants and the residents requesting exemption.
Bruce Taylor will be asked to prepare a resolution that
money be transferred from the Consultants account to the
Conventions account.
Debbie will contact Bruce Taylor regarding any possible
storage area for LACAC material which would be accessible to
members.
e) New LACAC members will receive the orientation package.
