HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 29, 1992 I s1 MINUTES A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on Wednesday, July 29th, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Anna Willson. PRESENT: Anna Willson Janis H. Waithe Huberty Konrad Zeh Enrico Pistritto Frank Williamson Janet Mehak Henry Gawman STAFF: l • Debbie Kearns, Councillors' Secretary 1. Adoption of Minutes Moved by Konrad Zeh, seconded by Frank Williamson that the Minutes of the Meeting of June 25th, 1992 be adopted. CARRIED r 2. Whitevale Heritage A map was distributed showing the properties of those wishing for exemption from the Whitevale Heritage Designation. Anna requested that a copy of the Resolution which will be coming before Council on August 4, 1992 concerning the Whitevale Heritage - Designation be faxed to her immediately. Enrico was questioned as to his support on the concept of Heritage in Pickering. He stated that he supports Heritage but also supports people's rights to be exempt if they wish. The committee felt that they could not accept Enrico's position. Moved by Frank Williamson and seconded by Konrad Zeh that; "We as a body ask for the replacement of Enrico Pistritto on the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee due to philosophical differences". CARRIED 1 {r - 2 - 3. Hugh Miller Application Anna Willson, Frank Williamson and Kim Thompson met with Mr. Ota of the Ministry of Culture and Communications and the contractor Mr. Devitt at the Hugh Miller property. Inspection was carried out of the work required and photo's were taken of each side of the home. Mr. Ota explained the scope of the work required and what type of mortar should be used. Moved by Frank Williamson and seconded by Enrico Pistritto that the Committee recommend to Council that the request for a grant by Hugh Miller for repointing of stone work to his home be approved. CARRIED 4. Other Business a) Anna stated that there are two new studies being carried out by the Ministry of Housing. 1) Seaton Lands 2) Properties around proposed landfill sites. b) Frank Williamson discussed his walk with William Zeyl of Marshall, Macklin, Monaghan to carry out a Finch Avenue Class Environmental Assessment. He mentioned two properties in particular that could be of historic or architectural interest to LACAC. 1) Home and Garage at 450 Finch Ave. built in 1852. Frank spoke to the owner's son who informed Frank that they were not interested in Heritage Designation. 2) Stone home on Finch Avenue south of Altona Road on the east side. c) Henry Gawman asked the Committee if they have an interest in Indian Sites. He informed them of a 1,100 year old Indian Village called the Miller Site at the corner of Valley Farm Road and Concession 3. Henry's desire would be to save the entire site or at least have a plaque placed on the site. The Secretary was directed to check with Planning as to the plans for this corner and also to send a letter to Bernice Field, Data Co-ordinator, Heritage Policy Branch, Ministry of Culture & Communications asking if they are interested in this site. J e - 3 - d) Frank Williamson will pursue organizing an Information Packet -describing LACAC. e) Frank Williamson pointed out to the Committee that he received a Community Services and Facilities Newsletter and noted that LACAC was not mentioned in it. The Secretary was directed to pursue this matter with the Community Services and Facilities Department, ensuring that LACAC is mentioned in their Spring Newsletter. f) Anna asked for volunteers to do a study and write a report concerning the impact of landfill sites in Pickering and to mail this report to Unterman, McPhail. This report is required by the Consultants no later than August 17th. Janis Waithe Huberty, Janet Mehak and Frank Williamson volunteered to carry out this study and write a report. g) Celia will present at a later date the outcome of the meeting with the Trustees concerning the Altona Cemetary. 5) Next Meeting The next meeting shall be held on Wednesday, September 2, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Anna Willson. 6. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
