MINUTES
A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee
was held on Wednesday, March 3, 1993 at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room #1,
Pickering Civic Complex.

1. Adoption of Minutes
Moved by Henry Gawman, seconded by Konrad Zeh that the Minutes of
the.Meeting of January 20, 1993 be adopted.

2. Heritage Week
Anna Willson thanked Kim Thompson and Frank Williamson for their
work in preparing the displays that were set up at the Pickering
Recreation Complex and the Pickering Town Centre during Heritage
Week, February 15-21, 1993.
Frank Williamson gave a report on the reception of the display at
the Pickering Town Centre and stated that the display at the
Pickering Recreation Complex was organized by Kim Thompson and
Dave Marlowe. He explained that the display at the Pickering
Town Centre centred around Heritage Pickering and the display at
the Recreation Complex was of Native Peoples' .
Frank also stated that two individuals expressed interest in
having their properties designated, Krista Pedersen, 5222 Old
Brock Road and Doug Willson, 1505 Whitevale Road.
Frank reported that four framed drawings of various old houses
were presented to Heritage Pickering and an 1877 map of Pickering
Township was loaned to Heritage Pickering for photocopies to be
taken if desired.
Moved by Frank Williamson, seconded by Janice Waithe-Huberty that
a member of Heritage Pickering approach Ms. Pedersen and Mr.
Willson to assist them with designation.

The Secretary was requested to send letters of appreciation to
Ms. Wendy Smith, Pickering Town Centre for her assistance, Mr.
Don Bryan for the four pictures and Mr. & Mrs. Day for the loan
of the 1877 map.
3. Newspaper Article
Anna Willson congratulated Henry Gawman on his newspaper article
with respect to Thistle Ha' . A copy of the article was given to
the Secretary for distribution with the Minutes to Members of the
Committee.

5. By-Law 2570/87 - Post Manor
A memo received from Bruce Taylor concerning the request from
Fitzsimmons, MacFarlane, Slocum & Harpur, Solicitors for By-law
2570/87 to be amended or replaced such that the only part of the
property designated is the stone building known as "Post Manor"
was circulated.
Moved by Henry Gawman, seconded by Frank Williamson that this
item be deferred until further information has been received and
reviewed.

The Secretary was directed to obtain a copy of Schedule A and B
from the By-Law Department and a copy of the actual designation
from the Legal Department and forward these items to the Members
of the Committee. She was also directed to enquire with the Town
Clerk what is involved in amending the by-law and whether or not
this change would have to go before the 0.M.B.
6. Ministry of Government Services
A request from the Ministry of Government Services was received
concerning the proposed demolition of 800 Forest Stream Trail.
Janet Mehak reported that she visited the site and stated that
this building does not have heritage significance.
The Secretary will advise the Ministry of Government Services of
the Committee's decision.
7. The Red Cross Church (School SS #6)
A copy of the draft public notice concerning the preservation of
The Red Cross Church was distributed.
8. Williamson House
Janet Mehak reported on the work to be carried out on the
Williamson House in preparation for its rental. Janet and
another Committee Member will carry out an inspection of this
house.

9. Stone Farm House - Valley Farm Road
Anna Willson advised that an application for rezoning from
agricultural to residential has been received with respect to the
stone farm house and farm buildings located on Part Lot 21, Conc.
2 (Valley Farm Road)
The Committee stated that the stone farm house and farm buildings
located on Part Lot 21, Conc. 2, (Valley Farm Road) form one of
the few remaining heritage properties south of the 3rd Conc. in
Pickering. Regardless of location, this complex is extremely
rare architecturally and in excellent condition.
Moved by Frank Williamson, seconded by Janet Mehak that in
Heritage Pickering's opinion (LACAC) Valley Farm is a valuable
architectural and historical asset to the Town of Pickering and
is without a doubt worthy of designation under provisions of the
Ontario Heritage Act.

10. Whitevale Heritage Citizens Committee
Anna Willson reported on the progress of the Whitevale Heritage
Citizens Committee. She stated that the recommendations have
been completed and a meeting was held with the Whitevale
residents on February 24, 1993 to run through the process with
them. It was the feeling of the Whitevale Heritage Citizens
Committee that the residents were happy with the recommendations
put forward.
Anna Willson stated that all comments from the residents as well
as the Committee's must be received by Council in April. It was
the decision of Heritage Pickering to approve the recommendations
and to review the situation in the future.
Next Meeting
The next meeting shall be held on Wednesday, March 31, 1993 at 7:00
p.m. in Meeting Room #1.
Adjournment

RE: Post Manor Designation
Please be advised that I have spoken with Bruce Taylor,
Town Clerk concerning the request of Fitzsimmons,
MacFarlane, Slocum & Harpur, solicitor acting on behalf
of Gilfred Investments Ltd. , for By-Law -2570/87, -to. be -
amended to affect only the Post Manor and not the other .
buildings.
Mr. Taylor advised me that this is an amendment to the
by-law only which would be done by Council and does not
require an O.M.B. hearing.
