As you are aware Heritage Pickering (LACAC) considers the Bentley
property in Brougham to be of significant heritage value and worthy
of preservation.
However, as the property is located on federal lands, the
Pickering Site assemblge acquired for locating an airport, the Town
of Pickering was advised that designation of the property under the
Ontario Heritage Act would not be appropriate.
We were also advised that Public Works Canada was undertaking a
heritage review, to be completed March 31, 1992, of the Pickering
Site properties and that a federal heritage designation on the
Bentley House was being sought.
Heritage Pickering is frustrated with the lack of information
received pertaining to, and progress on, both the heritage review
and the federal heritage designation of the Bentley House. This
frustration is exasperated by the proposed sale of some of these
federal properties, potentially including the Bentley House
property, prior to arrangements for the assured preservation of the
property being resolved.
We would appreciate your assisstance in clarifying the status of
the heritage review and federal heritage designation of the Bentley
House, and your continued support in assuring the preservation of
the Bentley House through designation as a heritage property.
Sincerely,
etc.
