MINUTES
A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on

Thursday, May 12, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pickering Civic Complex, Tower Meeting Room.

1. Grant Applications
The Secretary explained that the 1994 Grant Applications would be required by the middle
of July. She also reported that the 1993 Grant Applications received only 43% of the
requested amount but that those involved could apply for the remaining amount from the
1994 allocation..
Kim Thompson advised that the Millers are interested in applying for a 1994 Grant to
continue the renovations on'Thistle Ha'.
2. Heritage Signs
The wording for the Heritage Signs was discussed and finalized and the Secretary was
directed to request the Purchasing Department to acquire quotes on signs in cast metal,
aluminum or brass.

3. Frenchman's Bay Festival
Kim Thompson advised that she was approached concerning Heritage Pickering placing a
display at the Frenchman's Bay Festival. It was suggested that Frank Williamson be
approached concerning this matter. )01"
4. Seaton Tour
Anna Willson gave a brief outline of the Seaton Tour, advising that the Pickering
Naturalists did a fantastic job. Maps of Seaton were distributed. (Attached)
5. Ministry of Government Services
The demolition of the home at 625 Highway#7 was discussed. The Secretary will inform
the Ministry that Heritage Pickering does not have an interest in the property either
Architecturally or Historically.
6. Scheduling of Meetings
The following is a schedule of the dates of LACAC meetings - June:8, July 6, August 3,
September 7, October 5 and November 2.
7. Whitevale District Heritage Guidelines
4TheWhitevale:District Heritage Guidelines were discussed and the Committee members
were directed to forward their comments to Tim Moore of the Public Works Department.
8. Howell Property
The proposal by the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto to demolish the farmhouse and
outbuildings at No. 3485 - 16th Sideroad was discussed and it was suggested that a Town
Building Inspector inspect the buildings and that a LACAC member inspect and take
pictures of the buildings.
The Secretary will approach Tim Moore of the Public Works Department concerning this. •

9. Evans Heritage Building Permit
The building permit application by Mr. Evans of 340 Whitevale Road was discussed and
approved.
10. Ontario Heritage Act Working Draft
Copies of the Ontario Heritage Act Working Draft are to be copied and enclosed with
minutes to committee members. If committee members wish to comment, these comments
should be mailed directly to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Recreation.
11. Planning Library
A partial list of books available, in the Planning Department, to staff and LACAC
members was distributed. (Copies enclosed).
12.Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room
#1.
