PRESENT: Karen Emmink John Sabean Gail Wideman Janet Mehak Peter Buerschaper Susan Shewan • Staff: Debbie Kearns 1. Adoption of Minutes Moved by Peter Buerschaper, seconded by Susan Shewan that the Minutes of the May 13th meeting be adopted as presented. CARRIED _ 2. Dunbar House John advised that a public meeting was held with Tom Mohr - Historical Society, Mr. Feeley - Developer and himself in attendance. John stated that he felt somewhat confident that the proposed application would be approved although there was opposition from area residents. • 3. Sub-Committees John advised that Tint Moore, Building Services Manager will hold a training session with the • Property Designation Sub-Committee to outline various aspects of designation, what it means what is involved, etc. . • . John explained that the Cultural Heritage Landscape Sub-Committee would look at cethetary • preservation, protection of natural areas, master plan.of archeological sites and designation of brid ges /culverts etc.. • The Inventory Sub-Committee will review and expand on the inventory, once received from the Consultant. • • - 2 - 4. Palmer House John advised that the final report on the Palmer House was distributed. A meeting was held with the CEO of the Library, the Councillors who sit on the Board, and Tim Moore, Building Services Manager, all of whom stated their position on the preservation of this building. Another meeting will take place and plans presented. 5. Land Registry Office Books/APOLROD No update at this time. 6. CHO Conference Reports John advised that he and Isa attended the CHO Conference held in Kitchener and it was advised that a tax relief for the restoration of heritage homes may be included in the next Federal Budget. John also stated that he will be attempting to acquire a copy of the District Plan and Heritage Inventory of Unionville. 7. Informal Meeting of Heritage Groups An informal meeting to be held with Council, the Library, Historical Society, and Heritage Pickering is tentatively planned for the fall. 8. Policies and Procedures Manual No progress at this time. John will approach Ajax to review the Policy and Procedures Manual they have developed. 9. Liaison John gave a brief update on the various committees as follows: a) Ajax LACAC - hopes to attend their next meeting. b) Pickering Township Historical Society - supporting the Committee's position on the Dunbar and Palmer Houses. c) Pickering Rural Study Committee - report completed. Meeting to be held on June 24th, Committee Members should try to attend. d) Altona Forest Advisory Committee - no update. e) Waterfront 2001 - final report in progress. f) Rouge Park Alliance - meeting was held and a summary of all comments will be prepared. Another meeting will be held on June 24th- John will attend. g) Durham Heritage Fest - will be held in Oshawa this fall, the Library, Historical Society and Heritage Pickering will be involved. - 3 - 10. Other Business a) Plaques have been ordered. The Secretary will approach the previous Committee Chair concerning status of plaques. 11.Next Meeting The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 9th, 7:30 p.m. in the Tower Room. 12. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
