MINUTES
A meeting of the Heritage Pickering Committee was held on Wednesday, November 11, 1998 at
7:30 p.m. in the Tower Room of the Civic Complex.

1. Adoption of Minutes
Moved by Janet Mehak, seconded by Susan Shewan that the Minutes of the October 15th
1998 meeting be adopted as amended. . -

2. Walking/Driving Brochures & Inventory
John advised the Coimittee that a letter had been forwarded to Catherine Tredway advising
of deadlines set for completion of the brochures and inventory. He outlined the events
which took place regarding visiting her office, being advised that the brochures-would be
delivered by Monday,November 2nd and inventory within two weeks. To date, nothing has
• been received and the Committee concurred with the suggestion that Bruce Taylor, Town
Clerk be requested to forward a letter to Catherine advising that deadlines have been missed
• and requesting completion of the contracted work.
3. Property Designation •
a) John advised that he met with Unterman-McPhail and together they visited the Palmer-.
Voss House. He stated that a report would be delivered by the end of the year. He also
advised that Unterman-McPhail are attempting to date the Palmer House and if
successful will forward a report on this as well.

b) John advised that he met with the owner of the Woodruff House. Information is being
gathered which should help the Committee with designation. The information should be
available by the end of this year.
c) Ann Dinardo -No progress yet.
d) Cleeve Horne - A visit to the home will be made next week by John and Peter.
e) Tom Thomson- Do not want designation.
f) Village of Dunbarton-Designation will be considered at a later date.
g) Training Session-Possibly sometime in mid December.
4. Niagara-on-the-Lake CD ROM
Has not been received yet.
5. Heritage Pickering Brochure
John thanked Peter and requested that, on behalf of the Committee, appreciation be expressed
to his son for preparing the Heritage Pickering Brochure. John advised that this brochure was
made available at Heritage Fest for distribution. He also advised that another Heritage Fest
will be held in February.
6. Airport Lands, Gravelle Letter, Aaron Fremont Letter
No update
7. Mapping
John received Town of Pickering maps from the Planning Department and suggested to the
Committee that cemeteries, environmentally sensitive lands, heritage properties, etc. be
plotted on the maps. Susan suggested that mylar overlays be created for each item for use in
presentations.
8. Land Registry Office Documents/APOLROD
No update.
9. Policies and Procedures Manuel
No update.
10. Liaison
No update.

11. Other Business
a) John advised that Phil Dunn from the Ministry of the Environment will meet with the
Committee on November 21st to tour Howell's Hollow.
b) 1999 Membership with CHO - Community Heritage Ontario was approved.
12. Budget
John discussed the budget and requested that Committee Members provide him with a list of
related reading material they wish purchased for Heritage Pickering.
13. Next Meeting
The next meeting has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th, 7:30 p.m. in
the Tower Room.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
