HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 26, 1998 • A. etc^' Pickeiing' . l *'r it cemernr 'on.44.4 Drew n.mizt}e, MINUTES A meeting of the Heritage Pickering Committee was held on Thursday, November 26, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of John Sabean. • PRESENT: John Sabean - Isa James Peter Buerschaper Susan Shewan Staff: Debbie Kearns • 1. Adoption of Minutes - . . Moved by Susan Shewan, seconded by Peter Buerschaper, that the Minutes of the November 11th 1998, meeting be adopted as amended. CARRIED 2. 1998 Budget A discussion took place concerning the 1998 Budget and purchases still to be made. It was agreed that the following books be purchased for the Committee: a) Looking For Old Ontario b) Well-Preserved c) 2 Copies of The Pickering Story • d) External Recording Training Manual - Susan will investigate the cost of mapping and mylar overlays for the Committee's use in presentations, displays, etc. • 3. 1999 Budget • A discussion took place concerning the 1999 Budget. The Committee concurred wxth the new budget figures which will be prepared and submitted by John Sabean. - 2 - 4. Catherine Tredway John updated the Committee on the recent events which have taken place while attempting to acquire the inventory, driving tour and walking tour brochures. He advised that at a recent visit to pick-up all the material from her, her office was closed and locked. This matter has now been turned over to the Town Clerk who will forward a letter to Catherine requesting the information on the Town's behalf. 5. University Lands John advised that a University Satellite Campus has been proposed for the 4th Concession and that a meeting to discuss the severing of lands has been postponed until May. There are at least four heritage homes that would be affected by this application. 6. Jean Horne Peter advised that he and John had a very positive visit at the home of Jean and Cleeve Horne. He also stated that Mrs. Horne is in agreement with the Committee's wish to designate the home. 7. Howell's Hollow A tour by six members of the Committee took place on Saturday, November 21st of Howell's Hollow. Nothing of significance was found on the property. 8. Aaron Fremont John commented on the letter received from Mr. Fremont concerning his wish to create Pickering Heritage Estates, a project similar to the Markham Heritage Estates. John prepared a response to Mr. Fremont which the Committee heard and concurred with. The Committee stated that moving a heritage home should only be done as a last resort. 9. Next Meeting The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 20th, 7:30 p.m. in the Tower Room. 10. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
