Minutes of the Meeting
June 13th,2001
TORONTO REGION CONSERVATION AUTHORITY:
1. Staff of the Toronto Region Conservation Authority presented information on
their Multicultural Environmental Stewardship Program.
2. This program was initiated in 1997 in an effort to reach out to new Canadians.
3. Marketing information was translated in 5 languages and made culturally relative.
4. Part Time Community Leaders were hired to ensure the needs of the Multicultural
Community were being addressed and that barriers to participation were
eliminated.
5. Cooperative Events were planned between various Communities, Local
Businesses and the TRCA.
6. Community Action Sites were chosen based on communities plans to improve a
green space or river location. Successes were celebrated.
7. TRCA would like approval to access the City of Pickering ethnic group leaders.
CITY OF PICKERING ACCESSIBILITY ACTION PLAN:
1. A very brief overview was provided regarding the City of Pickering direction to
improve the accessibility to and within City Buildings.
2. This item was deferred until the September meeting when members of the
Accessibility Committee would be invited to present a more in depth overview of
the Committees functions to date.
POLICE WEEK— SEPTEMBER 16TH,2001:
1. Committee Members were informed of the Police Week Open House event on
Saturday September 16th, 2001 at Division 19
2. The City of Pickering will be providing display space for the Committee.
