A Statutory Public Information Meeting was held on Thursday, September 21, 2000 at
7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
PRESENT:
L. Taylor - Manager, Current Operations Division
D. Kearns - Committee Coordinator
The Manager, Current Operations Division, provided an overview of the requirements of
the Planning Act and the Ontario Municipal Board respecting this meeting and matters
under consideration thereat.
(I) ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENT APPLICATION A 27-00
A. REALE REALTY LTD.
PART OF LOT 33, RANGE 3, B.F.C.
(NORTH-WEST CORNER OF KINGSTON AND ALTONA ROADS)
1. Lynda Taylor, Manager, Current Operations Division, provided an explanation of
the application, as outlined in Information Report#27-00.
2. Herb Goldsmith, Applicant, advised that he was present to answer any questions.
3. Geraldine Goudie, Rougemount Drive, stated her concern with the added
congestion due to the dropping off and picking up of children from this
establishment. She advised that the construction of a pipeline down Whites Road
will cause more traffic to use Altona Road. A number of accidents already occur
along Altona during the winter months. She noted that only 15 parking spots
were proposed and questioned that if these spots are for staff or for parents and if
for parents, where will staff park.
4. Herb Wank, stated his concern with the planning process.
5. Herbert Reeve, representing the Angelica Day Care on Altona Road, stated his
concern with added congestion along Altona Road. This is a dangerous spot for
dropping off and picking up children especially if Altona Road is widened to four
lanes. The support for Day Cares along Altona Road is slowing down.
6. Herb Goldsmith, Applicant, advised that there are a number of entrances and exits
from the building to fenced in areas ensuring the safety of the children. They
have operated Day Care Facilities for 25 years and wish to be part of this
community. They will endeavour to discuss ways of rectifying the concerns
outlined.
Cont'd.....
7. Lynda Taylor, Manager, Current Operations Division, advised that there is only
one access to the residential area and the day care facility. The traffic issue will
be reviewed by City staff. When concerns are reviewed, a meeting will be
arranged with Ms. Goudie and Mr. Goldsmith.
