4.0 Business Arising from Minutes
4.1) Frenchmans’ Bay Harbour Entrance
A. Mostert provided members with an update on the restoration
work done to date at Frenchman’s Bay Harbour entrance.
Through the aid of a power point presentation, he provided
photos of works completed to date, which included a tree
planting event in April. He noted the temporary bridge would
stay there for another month until the restoration work has
been completed. He stated the concrete walk on the west
side is now complete, with the curbs to be installed.
A. Mostert also provided photos of the post and rail rope
railing, which was installed using reclaimed beams from the
harbor entrance.
A question and answer period ensued regarding the timing for
a grand opening. Discussion also ensued with respect to the
options for the use of extra funds resulting from the project
coming in under budget.
N. Gaffney noted that full access to the public would be
available by the end of November.
Also questioned was if the pontoon boat was being included in
Phase 1 of the Waterfront Master Plan, Interpretive signage as
well as any additional work on the west side.

3,000 competitors with five schools participating in the Junior
Dragonboat races. He noted the water levels were high and
the weeds did not cause any problems. He also stated the
Canoe Club Regatta was well received with 5 or 6 clubs
participating.
3.3) Eurasian Water Milfoil
A. Mostert provided an update on behalf of J. Dike and the
Allies of Frenchman’s Bay Association with respect to the
milfoil weed. He stated that monitoring of the test sites
conducted in June of this year had concluded that 75% was
clear water, and that 25% of the milfoil were damaged, which
means the weevils appear to be successful. He stated that
30,000 weevils were stocked in late July, with 20,000 off the
west spit, which is a good area for overwintering.
A question and answer period ensued with questions raised
regarding the process for measuring. A. Mostert noted that the
weevils are placed by divers, and that independent monitoring
will be conducted by students. A second review will take place
in October.
B. Skitch noted that the weeds are worse this year, and also
noted algae in the area as well.
M. Robbins noted she felt some areas appeared to show signs
of improvement.
Members requested the notes be provided to members along
with the minutes. A. Mostert noted any questions regarding the
milfoil weeds can be directed to J. Dike
3.4) Pickering Auxiliary Rescue Association (PARA)
A. Mostert provided an update on PARA’s rescue boat, on
behalf of J. Dike. He noted that cheque presentations were
made to PARA at an event held on June 7th as follows:
$10,000 from Veridian Corporation
$35,000 from the Trillium Foundation
$20,000 from the City of Pickering
$5,000 from OPG
N. Gaffney also advised members that PARA has been

date on the Linton Farmhouse/Trail Washroom. He provided
photos showing the addition as well as the concrete walk and
curbs. He stated that tempered translucent glass would be
installed in the new windows, as a use for the building structure
has not yet been determined. He also noted the trail
connection is underway to connect with the Waterfront Trail.
A. Mostert also noted the City of Pickering was still working
with the Region of York for a written agreement to determine
who pays for what. He also noted no further update with
respect to Frisco Road at this time.

night Friday evening, September 19th at 8:00 pm at Millenium

well, showing the Lego movie.
