1. Welcome—Training Provincial Accessibility Standards D. Marlowe
D. Marlowe provided training on the Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act as mandated by the province.
2. Review and Adoption of Minutes All

That the minutes of the June 26, 2013 meeting be approved as
amended.

3. Business Arising from the Minutes D. Marlowe
Update — Tax Credits for Seniors
D. Marlowe provided information available on the "Healthy
Homes Renovation Tax Credit” as requested at the previous
meeting. The credit applies to seniors 65 years or older. After
brief discussion, D. Marlowe suggested that the committee

would have to submit a recommendation to Council for the City
of Pickering to request that the provincial or federal government
provide a new tax credit program for people with disabilities.
4. Post Event Update All
Total Wellness Event— September 14, 2013
M. Brenner advised that the event went very well. The guest
speakers were fantastic and delivered plain language
information. Although traffic and attendance was low, it was a
great opportunity to partner with the City for the anniversary
celebration and would suggest continuing this partnership for
future events.
K. Falconer mentioned that he has received a letter and photos
from Joe Dickson's office and will be forwarding them to the
committee members.
Joint AAC Forum — September 24, 2013
D. Marlowe, M. Brenner, K. Falconer and P. McCafferty
attended the Forum and found the speakers to be very
interesting. It was a great opportunity to find out what other
municipalities and organizations are doing in their community.
D. Marlowe mentioned the "Teach Able" program which is
based in the schools and provides comfortable learning D. Marlowe to email
experience at an early stage. He will be sending copies of committee members.

K. Falconer noted that he would like to invite the guest speaker, up to invite guest

5. Correspondence All
D. Marlowe distributed a copy of an email received from the
Perth & Huron Counties AAC, with regards to an upcoming
event being coordinated with the Avon Maitland District School
Board called "A Day in Your Shoes". The goal is to teach
empathy and patience towards persons with disabilities. He
suggested that the committee could look into this type of event
for next year.
6. Other Business All

Reminder to committee members that this weekend is the 25
Hour Musical Band-A-Thon, a non-stop Multicultural music fest
being held at Pickering High School from 7 pm Saturday,
September 27th to 7 pm Sunday, September 28th

Accessibility Report: 2012 Achievements
Question was raised with regards to a report going to Council •
providing an update on the City of Pickering's Five Year
Accessibility Plan (2012-2016). The committee members
requested an opportunity to review the report prior to its
presentation at Council. D. Marlowe advised that the report
CR 11-13 has been submitted to be included in the Executive
Committee Agenda for the October 7, 2013. It was noted that
Committee members could appear as a delegation at the
Executive Committee meeting to speak and provide further
comments on the report.

Update on Facilitator Pilot Project
R. Michaud mentioned that the City Clerk has completed her
review on the advisory committees and has collected
information for a report to Council for the new term of office.
More details to follow on the election process for Chair and
Vice-Chair of Committees for the last year of the committee
mandate. Election to be held at the October meeting.
2014 Accessibility Events
P. McCafferty mentioned that she has some ideas for the
events next year and requested that the item be added to the
agenda for discussion at the next meeting.
