2. Year 2001 Committee Projects / Events
Canada Day 001
Kim advised, that as stated in the Minutes of the April Advisory Committee Meeting,
it would not be possible for the committee to participate in the Frenchman's Bay
Festival. She further advised that there is an opportunity for participation in the
Canada Day celebrations and requested that a contact name be provided to Dave
Waldriff in order that arrangements could be made.
Kim requested a list of the supplies needed for the suggested project and advised that
all materials would be provided by the City.
Matthew advised that the committee's proposed project for this event involved
painted hand prints placed on different shaded banners depicting the diverse society
within Pickering. Also, individual 8%" x 11" paper would be made available for
children to take home with their hand print on. Margaret also suggested that handi-
wipes should be provided for cleaning the paint off individuals hands.
3. Other Business
a) Matthew gave Emily various International Flags which were no longer required
by his company. These flags will be hung in the St. Mary Catholic High School
Cafeteria.
b) Fred advised that the Pickering Seniors Tea Party was held on May 6th from 12:30
p.m. — 3:30 p.m. at the Recreation Complex and was a great success with over
200 in attendance.
c) Youthfest will be held at the Ajax Community Centre on May 11th.
d) The suggestion was put forward again by Margaret for a Videographer to create a
video, taping at various events in which the Advisory Committee participate in.
Margaret and Matthew will meet to discuss this suggestion and bring forward a
proposal at the next Committee Meeting. Lewis Williams provided the name of
Mahtin Khaja who is a videographer.
e) Councillor Ryan advised that an Accessibility audit has been undertaken by the
City in all City owned facilities. He further advised that the City has received a
letter of commendation from the Bloorview MacMillan Municipal Integration
Network for - the audit. He further advised that the City recognizes that this
program was brought forward by the Race Relations & Equity Committee.
