SUBJECT: Appointment of By-law Enforcement Officers to enforce Parking By-law 2359/87.

RECOMMENDATION:
That Report #CL 60-98 be received; and
That the draft by-law to appoint three persons to enforce Parking By-law 2359/87 for the Town of Pickering be forwarded to Council for enactment.

BACKGROUND:
As the Parking Control Officer will be off for the month of December, three individuals from Ontario Guard Services (Durham) Inc. have been hired to enforce the parking by-law for this
period.
We are also contemplating hiring this firm on a contract basis until March 15, 1999, to assist the Parking Control Officer with winter control.

THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING
BY-LAW NO.
Being a by-law to appoint By-law Enforcement Officers to enforce By-law 2359/87 (Parking)
WHEREAS pursuant to the provisions of Section 25(I) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter P15, as amended, the council of any municipality or trustees of any police village
may appoint one or more municipal law enforcement officers who shall be peace officers for the purpose of enforcing the by-laws of the municipality or police village;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The following persons are hereby appointed as municipal law enforcement officers in and for the Town of Pickering in order to ascertain whether the provisions of By-law 2359/87 are
obeyed and to enforce or carry into effect the said By-laws:
Bernard Rooney
Lewis Stevens
Garry Burns
2. The authority granted in section 1 hereto is specifically limited to that set out in section 1, and shall not be deemed at any time, to exceed the authority set out in section 1.
3. These appointments shall expire upon the persons appointed in section 1 hereof ceasing to be an employee of Ontario Guard Services (Durham) Inc. or on March 15, 1999.
4. This by-law will take effect on December 8, 1998.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 21st day of December, 1998.
