FIX SALARIES OF THE COMMISSIONERS OF TIffi

In Clerk's Report CL 62/98, it is recommended that a draft by-law to :fix
salaries of the Commissioners of the Pickering Hydro-Electric Commission
for the period commencing December 1, 1998 and expiring on November
30, 2000, be forwarded to Council for enactment.

1998, be approved.

SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES IN YEAR 2008

In Clerk's Report CL 2/99, it is recommended that the tenets of support
called for by the Bill entitled: An Act to endorse the proposed bid of the
City of Toronto to host the XXIX Summer Olympic Games be endorsed.

APPOINTMENT OF BY -LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
TO ENFORCE PARKING BY-LAW AT DCC#139,

In Clerk's Report CL 63/98, it is recommended that a draft by-law to
appoint two persons to enforce the Parking By-law at DCC #139, 1400

(III) OTHER BUSINESS
1. The following matters were discussed prior to the regular meeting:
a) The Director of Parks & Facilities advised that the Fire Chief has
been hospitalized. When further information is available, Council
will be informed.
b) Councillor Johnson requested that the Director of Parks & Facilities
review the concerns raised regarding deficiencies in the Claremont
Fire Hall.
c) The Town Clerk advised that the Director of Finance & Treasurer
has requested that a representative ofDeloitte & Touche attend the
Council Meeting of January 18th to make a short presentation.
d) Councillor Dickerson requested that the Director of Parks &
Facilities forward a memo to staff commending them on their
continued efforts respecting snow removal.
e) Councillor Dickerson commented on the production site at the
Claremont Conservation Area of 'Little Men' advising that :filming
ends in February. Discussion took place concerning further options
for the film site rather than having the entire set tom down.
f) Councillor Pickles advised that Autopac have requested that Item 1
on the agenda concerning Jade Sea be tabled.

g) Councillor Holland advised that he had faxed information to all
Council Members concerning Bill 35.
(IV) ADJOURNMENT

TOWN OF PICKERING
That the Executive Committee of the Town of Pickering having met on January 11, 1999,
presents its first report to Council and recommends:
1. 1999 ANIMAL CONTROL BUDGET
FILE NUMBER - C 2200
That the Council ofthe Corporation ofthe Town of Pickering hereby approves the
1999 Animal Control budget estimates as recommended by the Pickering, Ajax and
Whitby Joint Animal Control Committee at its meeting of December 16, 1998.
2. SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES IN YEAR 2008

WHEREAS the Canadian Olympic Association at its regularly scheduled meeting
held in Calgary on April 17, 1998 voted to grant approval to the City of Toronto's
application to represent Canada's bid to host the 29th Olympiad in 2008 subject to
the dictates of the International Olympic Committee Charter; and
-
WHEREAS the City of Toronto Council on July 9, 1998, passed a motion to ratifY
the agreement between the Canadian Olympic Association and the City that
detailed the terms required and outlined the mandate for the operation of the
Olympic Organizing Committee (TO-Bid), the organization authorized to present
the Toronto bid for the Summer Olympic Games in 2008; and
WHEREAS the Ontario Legislature on December 3, 1998 unanimously endorsed a
Bill introduced by Morley Kells, the Ontario Olympics Commissioner, to support
the City of Toronto's bid to host the 29th Summer Olympic Games and encourage
participation by all of Ontario's communities in the bid proposal and subsequent
presentation of the Olympiad; and
WHEREAS the International Sports Federations representing the 140 athletic
competitions and the IOC delegates who cast the deciding votes in 2001 will be
influenced favourably by Province-wide public support for the Toronto bid;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Corporation of
the Town of Pickering hereby endorses the tenets of support called for by the Bill
entitled: An Act to endorse the proposed bid of the City of Toronto to host the
XXIX Summer Olympic Games; and
That this Council agrees with the principles of "building a peaceful and better
world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any
kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit
offriendship, solidarity andfair play" as described in the roc Charter; and
-
That this Council further agrees to have this endorsement joined to that of other
jurisdictions as a display of Provincial solidarity behind this universally acclaimed
undertaking.
