Establishment of Baylawn-Primrose Neighbourhood Watch and
Talltrees Neighbourhood Watch.
Recommendation:
That the letters from the Durham Regional Police Service dated July 25,
2005 endorsing the establishment of the Baylawn-Primrose
Neighbourhood Watch and Talltrees Neighbourhood Watch, be received;
and
That the Council of the Corporation of the City of Pickering hereby
endorses the Baylawn-Primrose Neighbourhood Watch and Talltrees
Neighbourhood Watch and approves the installation of Neighbourhood
Watch signs at the entrances to the subject areas.
Executive Summary:
To endorse the establishment of the Baylawn-Primrose Neighbourhood Watch and
Talltrees Neighbourhood Watch and to direct staff to erect the Neighbourhood Watch
signs at the entrances to the subject areas.
Financial Implications: None
Background: Please find attached to this Report letters from the Durham
Regional Police Service dated July 25, 2005 advising of their endorsement of the
Baylawn-Primrose Neighbourhood Watch and the Talltrees Neighbourhood Watch.
Maps of the areas served for these Neighbourhood Watch locations are attached to the
letters from the Durham Regional Police Service.
By endorsing these Neighbourhood Watch requests, Council is giving permission to the
installation of three signs to be placed at the entrances to the subject areas. The
Neighbourhood Watch will purchase the signs, however, City staff will undertake the
installation.

RE: THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMMUNITY NEIGHBOURHOOD WA TCH
"Ba¥1awn-Primrose Neighbourhood Watch, Pickerinu"
Through the implementation of Crime Prevention Programs, dedicated community volunteers work with police to
help reduce crime in their communities.
One such "Citizen Involved" Crime Prevention Program is Neighbourhood Watch. It is a program which employs
an elegantly simple technique of"neighbours looking out for neighbours" to reduce threats of crime against potential
victims.
This letter is to introduce you to a group of concerned citizens who want to be involved in this program. Through
persistence, devotion and hard work, these people have made an honourable effort to form a Neighbourhood Watch
within their community. They have met all criteria as set out in the Durham Regional Police Service
"Neighbourhood Watch Guidelines" and have received a commitment from their fellow neighbours of at least 75%
participation. In so doing, they have demonstrated their understanding that Crime Prevention is not just a job for a
few professionals. Rather, the attitude and involvement of these citizens proves their genuine concern to work
together to make our community a better place to live.
The Durham Regional Police Service endorses this new organization as an official Community Neighbourhood
Watch. It is recommended that they be granted permission to erect approved Neighbourhood Watch signs in their
area as a crime deterrent.
