A By-law of the Corporation of the
Township of Picketing to establish
certain benefits for those employees
o~ the Township of Pickering not
covered by the Union Agreement
THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING ~NACTS
AS FOLLOWS ~
1. .I..nsurance Coverage -
The Corporation will pay 66 2/3 of the premiums of the
(A) Ontario Hospital Services Plan up to and including semi-
private care
(B) The present Life Insurance Plan
(C) Physicians Servicee Incorporated Family Plan and the
Extended Health Benefits Plan
(D) In addition to the Corporations payment of 1.8% required
on the Canada Pension Plan the Corporation agrees to
contribute under the Ontario Municipal Employees Retire~
ment System Act or under the London Life Pension Plan
an amount equal to not more than 5% of the earnings of
each employee who makes contributions under this act or
pension plan as the case may be.
2. Sick Leave -
(1) The Township shall establish a system of sick leave
credits under which an employee shall be entitled 1%
days for each month of regular attendance.
(2) The credits shall be accumulative.
(3) The credits shall be entered into a register to be main-
tained by the Treasurer.
(4)No credits shall be given to an employee in any month
who is absent from duty in that months
(a) For more than 6 days for any reason other than
vacation leave of absence.
(b) Without leave of absence.
(5) An employee shall not be granted any sick leave credits
or any fringe benefits until he has completed 3 months
continuous employment with the Township of Picketing.
(a) An employee retained past the 90 day probationary
period shall be a permanent employee, aD~ placed
on the seniority list, and credited with seniority
from the day he commenced work.

(b) On transfer to a higher classification an employee
shall be on transfer trial for a perlo~ of 30 days.
At any time after the expiration of the said 30
days the said employee shall have the right to apply
in writing to the Corporation for permanent class-
ification in such higher classification and unless
the Corporation shall, within 5 days of receipt of
such written request, refuse such re-classification,
then the employee shall be deemed to be reclassified
in such higher classification.
(6) No employee shall receive pay for absence casue~ by sick-
ness, in excess of his accumulated credits.
(?) Payment for sick leave shall be made at the prevailing
rate in effect during the absence of the employee. For
those employees engaged on a salary basis the salary
shall be continued until the employee has exhausted
this accumulated credits and for those employees on an
hourly basis the hourly multiplied by the normal work-
ing hours for the particular period, shall be ~aid until
the employee has exhausted his accumulated credits.
(8) After 3 days absence caused by sickness no leave with
pay shall be allowed unless a certificate of a duly
qualified medical practitioner is forwarded to the head
of the employees department certifying the inability
of the employee to attend to his or her official duties.
The head of the Department may require an employee to
submit a doctor's certificate for a period of absence
of less than 3 days.
(9) The head of the Department may grant leave of absence
with pay upon any special grounds to an employee and the
period of absence shall be charged against the sick leave
credits of the employee.
(10) An employee shall be allowed 3 days off with pay when
a death occurs in the immediate family. Immediate
family means:
Father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister,
brother, wife, son daughter or other relatives living
with the employee.
3. Sick Leave -
(1) Each employee will be entitled to sick leave which will
accumulate at the rate of 1% days per month up to a
maximum of 180 days. The unused portion of an employee
sick leave will be accumulated and carried forward from
one year to another provided that, to qualify for sick
leave with pay an employee whsll when requested by the
Corporation produce evidence of illness reasonablF satis-
factory to the Corporation after the third day of illness.
(2) When an employee is injured at work and in receipt of
workmen's compensation in lieu of his regular pay, the
Corporation will make up the difference between such
compensation and his regular pay to the extent of the
maximum of the employee's accumulated sick leave with
pay credits or for the period of 6 months, whichever
shall be the shorter of the two. The amount of such
makeup pay shall be deducted frem such accumulated credits.

(3) On retirement or separation an employee shall be en-
titled to an amount equal to his salary0 wages or other
remuneration for ½ of the number of days of accumulate4
sick leave outstanding to his credit to a maximum of an
amount equal to ½ years earnings at the rate received
by the employee immediately prior to termination of em-
ployment~ provided that the employee has completed three
years of service with the Corporation, immediately prior
to the termination of employment.
(4) In the event an employee dies his estate shall be en-
titled to the pay in the amount equal to his accumulated
sick leave credits ae though he had retired or been
separated from the Corporation service and 3 (3) shall
apply in ascertaining the entitlement to the amount of
such payment.
An employee shall be provided with an annual statement
of sack leave credit gratuities accumulated to his or
her credit period. This statement shall be signed by
the Treasurer and shall be given to the employee on or
before Janua=y 31st of each year.
4. Paid Holiday..S -
(A) All permanent employees ehall be granted the following
holidays with pays
(1) New Years Day
(2) Good Friday
(3) Victoria Day
(4) Deminion Day
(5) Civic Holiday
(6) Labour Day
(7) Thanksgiving Day
(8) Christmas Day
(9) Boxing Day
(10) Easter Mor~ay
(11) Any other hol~ay that may he proclaimed by the Reeve
of the T~nehip of Picketing.
(B) A half day on Christmas Eve and a half day on New Years
Eve, but only if such days fall on a day other than
Saturday or Sunday.
(C) In order that an employee shall be granted the statuatory
holiday with pay the employee must'work the normal work-
in~ day immediately before and after the holiday.
(D) An employee other than a Department Head who is required
to work on any of the above paid holidays will in addition
to the holiday be paid at 1% ti~es his regular hourly
rate for all hours actually worked. If one of the said
holidays falls or is observed during an employees vacation
period he shall be granted another day off with pay in
lieu thereof. An e~ployee actually attending Remembrance
Day Services shall be granted 4 hours off with pay.
5. Vacation -
(1) Employees who have completed 1 year of service by June
30 in any current year will be allowed 2 weeks vacation
with pay.

An Employee Who.~ completed 5 or more years of service
by ~une 30 in any current year will be allowed 3 weeks
v~cation with pay.
(3) Employees who have completed 15 years or more service
by June 30 in any current year will be entitled to 4
weeks vacation with pay.
(4) Employees who have completed 20 years or more service
by June 30 in any current year will be entitled to 5
weeks vacation with pay.
(5) Vacations must be scheduled between the period of
June the 1st and September the 30th in the vacation
year unless otherwise arranged with the Corporation
and the employee.
(6) If an employee is entitled to more than 2 weeks vacation
and desires to take his extra vacation allowance at a
later date such time off shall be a mutual agreement
between the parties.
6. Aqe of R~.tirement -
All permanent male employees shall be retired at the age of
65 years. All permanent female employees shall be retired
at the age of 60 years. Council may at the request of the
employee extend the compulsory retirement age of such employee,
upon such terms as the Council deems fit.
7. Hou=s of ~pIQ~ent -
(A) All employees not covered by a Union Agreement shall
work a 5 day week, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. with a half hour for lunch.
(B) The Municipal Offices shall be open from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. daily except Saturday and Sunday, and designated
holidays.
8. When an employee is requested by the Corporation to use his
own automobile on the business of the Corporation he will
be paid 12¢ per mile for each mile driven on such business,
except where otherwise provided.
THAT By-Law Number 3002 be and the same is hereby repealed.
