Being, a bydaw to provide yor the imposition of a penalty jbr
non-payment of taxes
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter M.45, section
399(4), the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing may by by-law impose a percentage
charge as a penalty for non-payment of taxes not exceeding 15 per cent per annum, or such lower rate as
Council determines, from the date payment is due until it is made or until the 31 st day of December ef
the year in which the taxes were levied, whichever is earlier;
NOW THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS
FOLLOWS:
1. As a penalty for the non-payment of taxes, a charge of 15.0 per cent per annum shall be imposed
lbr the non-payment of taxes, until payment is made or until December 31 of the year in which
the taxes are levied, whichever is earlier.
2. The Treasurer shall give notice of the percentage charge imposed by section I, above, to the
persens taxed by causing notice thereof to be mailed 1o the address of the residence or place of
business of such persons.
3. This By-law shall come into lbrce on January I, 1998.
