BY-LAW NO. 3802/91
Being a by-law to provide for offering and paying on the
conviction of an offender a reward to any person who
supplies information leading to the apprehension or
conviction of any person guilty of certain offences.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1980, chapter 302, section 208.30,
by-laws may be passed by the councils of all municipalities for offering and paying on the conviction of
an offender a reward to any person who supplies information leading to the apprehension or conviction
of any person guilty of an offence whether trtable summarily or on indictment; and
WHEREAS the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing made Resolmion 109/91 on June
24, 1991, offering a reward of $1,000.00 to any person who provides information leading to a conviction
of a person or persons who disposes of garbage or refuse on Town roads or propen'y;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS
FOLLOWS:
1. Upon application therefor in accordance with section 2 hereof, The Corporation of the Town of
Picketing shall pay, on the conviction of an offender, a reward of $1,000.00 to any person who
supplies to the Corporation information leading to the conviction of any person guilty of any of
the following offences:
(a) a contravention of section l(a) of By-law 3818/70 of The Corporation of the Township,
now Town, of Pickering;
(b) a contravention of section 2 of By-law 385/76 of The Corporation of the Town of
Picker'mg; and
(c) a contravention of section 3 of By-law 385/76 of The Corpormion of the Town of
Picketing.
2. An application for a reward under section 1 hereof shall be made in writing by the applicant to
the Town Clerk prior to the offender being convicted.
3. (1) No more than one reward shall be paid with respect to any conviction.
(2) In the event that more than one application is received respecting any conviction, the
application received earliest from a person who supplies information leading to the
conviction shall be paid the reward.
4. Despite the generality of sections 1 and 2,
(a) no member of the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering,
(b) no member of the Council of The Regional Municipality of Durham,
(c) no member of The Regional Municipality of Durham Police Services Board,
(d) no employee of The Corporation of the Town of Picketing,
(e) no employee of The Regional Municipality of Durham, and
(f) no employee of The Regional Municipality of Durham Police Services Board,
is eligible to apply for or be paid a reward hereunder.
