HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 3002A BY-LAW OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING TO ESTABLISH
CERTAIN BENEFITS FOR THOSE EMPLOYEES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING NOT
COVERED BY THE UNION AGREEMENT.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING ENACTS AS
FOLLOWS:
1. INSURANCE COVERAGE
(a) The Township shall pay 50% of the premiums of the Federal-
Provincial Hospital Care Insumance.
(b) The Township shall permit payroll deductions from the wages
of employees who wish to establish a Sickness Insumance Plan
group. Pmemiums rom this covemage shall be payable 100%
by the Township employees.
(e) The Township shall pay 50% of the premium of the g~oup life
insu~anceo
(d) The Township shell pay 50% of the Pension Plan.
(e) The Township shall pay 50% of the cost of Physicians Semvices
Incorpomated Blue Plan.
2. SICK LEAVE CREDIT GRATUITIES
(1) The Township shall establish a system of sick leave c~edits
under which an employee shall be entitled to a cmedit of one
and one-half days for each month of megula~ attendance.
(2) The credits shall be cumulative.
(3) The cmedits shall be entered into a megister to be maintained
by the T~easure~.
(~) No cmedits shall be given to an employee in any month who
is absent from duty in that month~
(a) Fo~ mere than six (B) days for any reason other than
vacation leave of absence.
(b) Without leave of absence.
(5) An employee shall not be granted any sick leave credits 05
any fminge benefits until he has completed three months
continuous employment with the Township of Piekerlng.
(6) No employee shall meceive pay for absence caused by sickness,
in excess of his accumulated credits.
(7) Payment rom sick leave shall be made at the pmevailing sate
in effect du~ing the absence of the employee. For those
employees engaged on a salamy basis, the salary shall be
continued until the employee has exhausted his accumulated
credits and for those employees on an hourly basis~ the
hourly rate multiplied by the nommal working hours for the
particular period, shall be paid until the employee has
exhausted his accumulated cmedlts.
(8) After three (8) days absence caused by sickness no leave
with pay shall be allowed unless a certificate of a duly
qualified medical practitionem is forwarded to the head
of the employee's depamtment certifying the inability of
the employee to attend to his 05 her official duties. The
head of the depamtment may requlme an employee to submit
a doctor's certificate for a period of absence of less than
three daye~

(9) The head of the department may grant leave of absence with
pay upon any special grounds to an employee and the period
cf leave of absence shall be charged against the sick leave
credits of the employee.
(t0) An employee shall be allowed three (S) days off with pay
when a death occurs in the immediate family. Immediate
family to meanz Fatherj Mother, Father-in-law, Mother-in-law,
Sister, Brother, Wife~ Son, Daughter or other relative
living with the employee.
(11) On retirement or separation an employee shall be entitled
to an amount equal to his salary, wages or other remuner-
ation for one-half the number of days standing to his credit
and in any event, not in excess of the amount of one-half
year's earnings at the rate received by the employee
immediately prior to termination of employma~t and providing
that the employee has completed three years of service with
the Corporation of the Township of Picketing immediately
prior to termination of employment.
(12)Employees of departments where no record of Sick Leave
Credits has been previously kept, shall be granted a credit
of 1 day sick leave for each month that they have been employed
by the Township of Picketing.
(13) An employee shall be provided with an annual statement of the
Sick Leave Credit Gratuities accumulated to his or her
credit. This statement shall be signed by the Treasurer
and shall be given to the employee on or before January
of each year.
STATUTORY HOLIDAYS
(a) Ail permanent employees shall be granted the following
holidays with payl
(i) New Year's Day
(ii) Good Friday
(iii) Victoria Day
(iv) Dominion Day
(v) Civic Holiday
(vi) Labour Day
(vii) Thanksgiving Day
(viii) Christmas Day
(ix) Boxing Day
(x) Any other holiday that may be proclaimed
by the Reeve of the Township of Picketing.
(b) In order that an employee shall be granted a statutory
holiday with pay, the employee must work the normal working
day immediately before and after the holiday.
~N,UAL__VACATION
(a) All permanent employees shall be granted 2 weeks annual
vacation after one yea~s servicej 3 weeks annual vacation
after seven year~ service, and four weeks after twenty
years~ service~
(b) One ~ annual vacation may be carried over to the
following year.
(c) When a statutory holiday falls on a day of an employee's
scheduled vacation, the employee shall be entitled to an
additional day of vacation, provided that the necessary
arraR~ements have been made with the head of the department
prior to the commencement of the vacation period~

(d) Pemmanent employees shall Anclude all employees whose
semvice is continuous for such length of time as to
qualify them for the applicable annual vacation.
(e) Pemmanent employees shall be gmanted annual vacation
according to seniority and at a Time approved by the
head of his om hem depamtment.
5. AGE OF RETI.REMENT
All pemmanent male employees shall be retimed at the age of
55 yeams. All permanent female employees shall be merited at
the age of 60 yeams, The Council may, at the request of an
employee~ extend the compulsomy metlrement age of such
employee, upon such terms as the Council deems fit,
(a) All employees not cove~ed by a Union Agreement shall work
a five day week, Monday thmough F~iday, fmom 9;00 a. m.
to 5:00 p. m, with a half hou~ fop lunch.
(b) That the Municipal Office be open fmom 9 a. m. to 5 p. m.
daily except Satumday and Sunday.
7. That By-Law NumbeP 2631 be and the same is hereby repealed.
