1. No person shall sweep, throw~ drop or place, or o~llse ~o be swept,
tbro~m, dropped or placed, any ashes, garbage, ngffal, paper, dirt,
la~ r~kin~s, ~l~ssw~re~ c~ns, animal carcasses or rubbish of any
kind ~atsoever on a~]y lane, s~Peet, creek, roadway or public property
in %he To~ship of PickeFing excepi for collection as hereinafter
provided.
2. Mo person shall permit ~arb~e, rubbish, ashes op other ~ste
including p~per.of ~ny description %o be b]ox~n~ or dropped From the
premises occupied by him or fPom a vehicle o~e~ or operated by him
onto any lane, s~reet, cueek, roadway or other public property in the
Toxmship of Picketing.
Collection by and in thc To~mlsbip of Pickeping of garbage, rubbish,
ashes a~d other w¢ste n;aterial sh~ll be m~de only in ~re~{s which
from time to tir~c be designated by by-law.
4. Receptacles used to contain garbage, rubbish, ashes or other waste
materials to be collected by the To~a~ship of Pickering shall be covered,
water-tight containers not more than 30 inches high or lS inches
and shall not weigh more than 50 pmmds when full. Receptacles which
are s~a]ler at the top than at the bottom, such as f~ve gallon paint
cans~ shall not be used.
5. All garbage~ rubbish, ashes~ or other waste material to be collected
by the To~ship of Pickering must be ~laced in receptacles in accordance
~th Clause M~ber 4 herein~ or in the case of ~ertain materials,
b~md]es, in accordance ~ith Clause ~[unber 7 herein.
6. ~arbage must be drained of all liquid and securely wrapped in paper
before being placed in receptacles.
Such articles as crates, newspapers, pack~ng materials, brush~
nld f~umiture and material of l~ke nature may be collected in like
manner as garbage an4 asides, but musi be securely tied into co~upact
bundles or parcels not exceeding 2~ feet in any dimension or weighing
over 50 po~u~ds or placed in st~ficient receptacles as specified in
Clause ~m;~ber % herein so that they will not be scattered.
8. Not more than six "~ts" of garbage, rubbish~ ashes, or other waste
mater~al shall be placed out for each collection for any reside~ce,
commercial establishment or industrial establishment. A "lot" of
garbage shall mean either receptacle, or b~dle, in accordance ~t~
Clauses N~bers 4 and 7 herein respectively.
9. 0~mers and occupiers of premises locate~ in areas coca,only knoll as
Shopping Centres shall house the receptacles or bm]dles as herein
specified in wooden compartments, equipped ~th doors, by means of
which the collector may gain access provided that such compartments
shall be located so as not to interfere ~th pedestrian or vehicular
traffic, or at whatever precise point may be designated by the Co,oil.
For th~ ~urpose of this by-]aw a Shopping Centre includes any lands on
which are situate three or more retail stores, shops or restaurants
immediately adjacent one to the other, and having app%~tenant thereto
for the use of the patrons of such stores a common parking area not
being a part of the public highway.

10. The following shall not be collected by tile To~]ship of Pickering.
(a) Swill or other orgauic matter not properly drained or wrapped.
(b) Liquid waste,
(c) Uay, straw or manure.
(d) Night soil.
(e) Amy material ~lich has become frozen to the receptacle and
cannot be removed by shaking.
(f) Industrial waste which shall include among other things, any
packing material or cartons used in the transportatiou of goods
to or from the place of business.
(g) A~y material in receptacles or bundles which do not cou~rm to
Clanses N~u~bers 4 and. 7 herein.
(h) Hot ashes or any other material capable of starting fire.
(i) Sod, earth, brick, stone, building material or building rubbish.
ll. ~terial for collection shall not be placed on a highway or other
public property before GaO0 p.m. on the day preceding collection.
12. >laterial For collection shall be placed at the prescribed location
for collection not later than 7:30 a.m. on the collection day.
13. Empty receptacles and all material which the collector refuses must
be removed from the highway or from public property by the occupant
of the premises from which i_t was taken, before 8:00 p.m. on the same
day tbat the garbage is collected or the material refused.
14. Material set out for collection shall normally be placed as close as
possible to the edge of the roadway without obstructing the roadway,
sidewalk or footpath. In any case, tee Co~n]cil shall have tile power
to desi~nate the precise point at which the material shall be placed
for collection.
15. Excepl by order of the Comlcil, no garbage collection vehicle o~nled
or rented by the To~ship of Picketing shall enter a privately cue!ed
driveway or roadway or laud or other private property for the purpose
of collecting garbage, ashes, rubbish or other waste ~!aterial.
if;. ?,~o To~mship garbage collector shall be required to enter any house,
apartment house or other building, or ascend or descend any stairway
or enter any elevator or hoist or a loading platform for lhe purpose
of cel]ecti]~ gsrbage, ashes, rubbish or other waste material.
17. )lo person shall offer to, or give any To~mship Carbase Collector any
Fee or gratuity in addition to his wag~ for services rendered.
la. No person shall pick over, interfere with, distur.b, remove or scatter
any material placed out for collection ot]~er than the person who placed
the material cot for collection except and m~til the ~]aterial is coll-
ected by the Township of Picketing as herein provided.
19. No person or persons shall keep a garbage d~u::p or receptacle or re-
pository for waste material o,] his premises in such a conditioq er
iu suc}] a location that the same is a mlisance or emits fool or
sire odors or harbors or attracts rats or other vermin or insects and
the hody of a~y dead animal ]::,]st be pro~ipt].y disposed of by the
lhereof, so that the sar,~e shall not becoP, lea nuisance.

Any porson who contp~vone$ any of the p~ovSsions o~~ ~h~s
shall he liable upon cm~viction thcroof~ to a film not excee~tfing
'Phree Ifunfll~ed Dollars (':~300.00) for each offm~cc~ exclusive
costs~ ~-ecoverable ~der thc provisions of thc Ontario
Convictions Act, and in default of payment to imprisonment in the
common gaol far a period not exceeding ten day% m~less such fine
and costs ape sonueP paid.
Thc provisions off this by-law shall not relicvc any pevso;~
