HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 1251/81THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING BY-LAW NUMBER 1251/81 Being a by-law to authorize the issuance of licences and charging of fees for licences to hunt rabbits and pheasants during the open season. WHEREAS, pursuant to subsection 1 of section 39 of The Game and Fish Act, R.S.O. 1970, c. 186, as amended, the Minister of Natural Resources may in writing authorize any municipality to pass by-laws for issuing and fixing the maximum number of licences to hunt, during the open season, pheasants and rabbits and for charging such fees therefor as he authorizes, and the minister may fix the minimum number of such licences that the by-law shall provide for; and WHEREAS by letter dated March 18, 1980, the Secretary-Treasurer of the Pickering Game Commission has recommended that fees for hunting licences by $8.00 for non-residents and $4.00 for resi- dents plus the issuing fee; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS as follows: 1. In this by-law the term, (a) "resident" means any person who at the date of making application for a hunting licence (i) resides in the Town of Pickering, or (ii) is listed in the latest Assessment Roll as the owner of property in the Town of Pickering; (b) "non-resident" means any other person; and (c) "Town" means the Corporation of the Town of Pickering. 2. No person shall hunt rabbits or pheasants in the Town of Pickering during the open season without first having obtained a hunting licence from the Town. 3. The annual fee for a hunting licence shall be, (a) $7.50 for non-residents, and (b) $4.00 for residents, plus an additional fifty cents issuing fee. 4. A minimum of two hundred hunting licences shall annually be made available to non-residents. 5. There shall be no limit to the number of licences sold to residents. - 2 - 6. A minimum of one hundred and seventy-five adult ring- necked pheasants shall be released annually by the crown Game Commission of the Town of Pickering and such releases shall not take place sooner than one week before the open- ing of the hunting season in each year. 7. By-law Number 2669 is hereby repealed. BY-LAW READ a first, second and third time and finally PASSED this 2nd day of March 1981 ddClerk
