BY-LAW NO. ~51~82
Being a By-Law to amend By-Law No.
respecting prohibited turns
1364/81
WHEREAS, on September 21st, 1981, the Council of the Corporation of the
Town of Pickering enacted By-Law 1364/81, pursuant to section 210.117
of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1980, chapter 302, regulating traffic on
certain highways; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed expedient to amend that By-Law in certain respects;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering
HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLL~S:
By-Law 1364/81 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following
section:
la. (1) In this By-Law, the term,
(a)
"bus" means a motor vehicle designed for carrying
ten or more passengers and used for the trans-
portation of passengers;
(b) "emergency vehicle" means,
(i)
a Fire Department vehicle while proceeding
to a fire or responding to, but not return-
ing from, a fire alarm or other emergency
call,
(±±)
a vehicle while used by a person in the law-
ful performance of his duties as a police
officer,
(iii)
an ambulance while responding to an emerg-
ency call or being used to transport a
patient or injured person in an emergency
situation, and
(iv)
a cardiac arrest emergency vehicle operated
by or under the authority of a hospital.
(2)
The prohibitions set out in section (1), above, shall not
apply to buses, emergency vehicles or both buses and
emergency vehicles, where Column V of Schedule "I" to this
By-Law excepts them.
Schedule "A" to By-Law 1364/81 is hereby revoked and Schedule "I" to
this By-Law substituted therefor.
This By-Law shall come into force on the date that it is approved by
the Regional Municipality of Durham and when signs to the effect are
erected.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this
21st day of June , 1982.
