5.1 Courtney Milne, PFLAG Canada, Durham Region Re: PFLAG Canada, Durham Region - Programs and Events
Courtney Milne, PFLAG Canada, Durham Region -Programs and Events provided informationregarding 2SLGBTQI+ community and theresources offered by PFLAG Canada and other
community partners in Durham Region.
5.2 Krystal Roberts, Manager, Cultural Services, City of Pickering Re: Post Manor Feasibility Study – Community Space
Krystal Roberts provided an overview of the Feasibility Study underway to consider whether the Post Manor heritage property in Pickering is suitable for a community art gallery/studio space,
and solicited the Taskforce for their feedback.
Discussion ensued amongst Taskforce Members regarding:
•the prominent location of Post Manor;
•the importance of public art to help youthnavigate experiences of racism and promotea healthy community;
•the importance of public art to promotecreative expression;
•the benefit of having a space like this outside
of City Centre;
•whether there could be opportunities toshowcase local or emerging artists inPickering;
•whether there could be opportunities to hostworkshops to learn various forms or art;
•whether there could be opportunities to host
events, including licensed alcoholsales/consumption; and,

•whether there was opportunity for the City topartner with an organization specializing in
arts.

7. General Business
7.1 City Updates: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Emancipation Day
Jaclyn SanAntonio spoke to the City’s EDI Strategy being approved at the May 27, 2024 Council Meeting and provided information
regarding the City’s new EDI webpage. Jaclyn
spoke to the Region of Durham requesting Pickering to host an Emancipation Day Event and the potential opportunities for the Taskforce to get involved.
7.2 Executive Updates
Odessa Grignon provided an update to the Taskforce speaking to:
•a brief update on the Taskforce’s
finances;
•the delegation made that the May 27,2024 Council Meeting regarding theCity’s EDI Strategy; and,
•the invitation for Odessa Grignon andDenise David to attend Clarington’sDiversity Advisory Committee in June.
7.3 Subcommittee Updates
Consultation and Co-Design Subcommittee
Kenisha Hanson provided an update to the Taskforce regarding discussions with the City regarding the Consultation and Co-Design and spoke to the procurement process
involved in selecting a vendor for the project.
Community Partnerships Subcommittee
Odessa Grignon spoke to the preparation happening for the Taskforce’s Community BBQ Event on August 31, 2024 in celebration

of International Day for People of African Descent. She spoke to working with community partners to organize various details
of the event.
Marketing and Promotions Subcommittee
C.C. Canzius provided updates including:
•the purchase of promotional tote bags;
•increasing supplies of other promotionalmaterials including pen and fists (stressballs);
•the creation of PABRT t-shirts;
•the 2SLGBTQI+ allyship and BlackHistory Month displays; and,
•updates to the PABRT webpage.
The meeting lost quorum at 8:16 pm.
The Taskforce took a short recess.
The meeting resumed at 8:21 pm.
7.4 PABRT Participation in Community Events
Odessa Grignon spoke to the Taskforce’s participation in the Kujenga Family Wellness
Fair and the Durham PRIDE Parade.
Odessa Grignon solicited the Taskforce Subcommittee Chairs if there were any matters requiring a Taskforce decision before summer
recess. No matters were identified requiring a
decision.
C.C. Canzius displayed photos showcasing theTaskforce’s involvement in the Durham PRIDE
Parade.

There was no correspondence.
9. Other Business
9.1 Pride Events
Odessa Grignon highlighted some events that the City is championing including:

The next meeting is scheduled for September 12, 2024 at 7:00 pm in an electronic format.
The Taskforce discussed the City Council and Standing Committee schedule and the timelines
involved in to bring forward recommendations to
Council.
