Thompson welcomed the members and called the meeting to order. 2. Review and Approval of Agenda and Previous Minutes To approve the agenda and previous minutes from November’s 2023 CAC meeting. The committee reviewed the agenda. Motion to move original presentation of 5.2 – to 5.1, and 5.1 to 5.2. Moved by D. Thompson. To approve the agenda. Disclosure of Interest No disclosure of interest were noted. 4. Delegations There were no delegations for this meeting. 5. General Business 5.1 The Pickering Heritage & Community Center – Update L. Gibbs brought to the attention of the Cultural Advisory Committee the potential capital projects that are to be decided. On Thursday, January 18, 2024, a meeting will be held to decide on the capital projects seen as priorities. That being said, the many projects that are being looked at include – Pickering City Centre (phases 1 and 2), Petticoat Creek Conservation Park, Pickering Heritage Community Center, and Greenwood Community Centre. All projects will be considered beneficial assets to the community, however a decision to prioritize these specific projects have to be made. Particularly, the conversation regarding the Pickering Heritage Community Centre grabbed the Cultural Advisory Committees attention considering the grant of $16.5 million being remarkably significant to the capital project. Another statement L. Gibbs made included the loss of storage and administrative offices, etc. we may have if the Pickering Heritage Community Centre doesn’t go through. CAC members to provide their statements of support for the Pickering Heritage & Community Centre to be included as a 2024 Capital project in the City’s 2024 Budget; to be forward to the clerk’s office by January 17, 2024. Elliott proposed the question if all capital projects will be completed in the future. L. Gibbs responded stating it will be in consideration for the future. Moved by D. Thompson Carried. 5.2 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy – Update J. San Antonio presented the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy which included the priorities of focus. Those priorities included – 1. Education and Awareness, 2. Structure and Resources, 3. Community Consultation and Engagement, 4. Policies, Practices and Programs, and 5. Measurement and Accountability. The goal for the (EDI) strategy is to provide an inclusive and supportive environment where staff, businesses and residents have opportunities to grow, learn, engage, participate and thrive. There were no questions – however, J. San Antonio can be contacted through phone or email jsanantonio@pickering.ca 5.3 Public Art Project – Gordon Lightfoot – Update S. Barakov gave an update on the Gordon Lightfoot (EOI) – top 3 artists. Based on the Council Directive issued on September 29, 2023, resolution #282/23, staff is directed, through the Office of the CAO, to undertake a commission of public artwork to be installed in Ernie L. Stroud Park to celebrate the life of Gordon Lightfoot to add upon the approval of the 2024 Budget. Following the Public Art Policy (CUL 130), Community Services issued a public Call to Artists – Expression of Interest (EOI), Public Art Commission, Celebration of Gordon Lightfoot. The Public Art Jury met on January 11, 2024 to evaluate all artist Expression of Interests and selected the Top Three (3) Artists. Upon approval via the 2024 Budget, community consultations. Community consultation will be included for community feedback and engagement from the Steeple Hill Community including – programs, book display, and community open houses. S. Barakov is seeking approval. Moved by D. Thompson. Carried. 5.4 Pickering Museum Village – Update E. Tayles gave us an update on one of the exhibits to be implemented called Gather and Grow. The exhibit will explore the ways food preparation and production has connected people and communities, across cultures and history. There will be updates to the outdoor program area and gardens to reflect the exhibit including – herb garden, outdoor kitchen, teaching garden, kids play place, greenhouse, and living wall. Many upgrades will be provided and simulation projections for interactive opportunities. There were no questions – however, E. Tayles can be contacted through phone or email etayles@pickering.ca 5.5 2024 CAC Work Plan – Discussion K. Roberts asked to make a motion to take this matter to the next Cultural Advisory Committee meeting. The 2024 Work Plan has been differed until the next meeting. M. McFarland made a motion. Thompson stated the Robbie Burns dinner to take place on January 27, 2024. CAC members are to RSVP with Sarah Barber if you are to be in attendance. 7. Other Business 8. Next Meeting – February 20, 2024. The next Cultural Advisory meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 20, 2023, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. 9. Adjournment Moved by D. Thompson Carried.
