5.1 The Pickering Heritage & Community Center –
Update
L. Gibbs brought to the attention of the Cultural
Advisory Committee the potential capital projects that
are to be decided. On Thursday, January 18, 2024, a
meeting will be held to decide on the capital projects
seen as priorities. That being said, the many projects
that are being looked at include – Pickering City
Centre (phases 1 and 2), Petticoat Creek
Conservation Park, Pickering Heritage Community
Center, and Greenwood Community Centre. All
projects will be considered beneficial assets to the
community, however a decision to prioritize these
specific projects have to be made.
Particularly, the conversation regarding the Pickering
Heritage Community Centre grabbed the Cultural
Advisory Committees attention considering the grant
of $16.5 million being remarkably significant to the
capital project. Another statement L. Gibbs made
included the loss of storage and administrative
offices, etc. we may have if the Pickering Heritage
Community Centre doesn’t go through.
CAC members to provide
their statements of
support for the Pickering
Heritage & Community
Centre to be included as a
2024 Capital project in the
City’s 2024 Budget; to be
forward to the clerk’s
office by January 17,
