and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of
Scugog Island First Nation and Williams Treaties
signatories of the Mississauga and Chippewa
Nations. Pickering is also home to many Indigenous
persons and communities who represent other
diverse, distinct, and autonomous Indigenous
nations. This acknowledgement reminds us of our
responsibilities to our relationships with the First
Peoples of Canada, and to the ancestral lands on
which we learn, share, work, and live.”
2. Approval of Agenda and Review of Minutes
The committee reviewed the minutes from the
meeting held on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020. It

well as electricity in some of the buildings.

The museum recently viral on Tic Tok after a
guest posted a video of the Haunted Ghost
drive thru tour.
The museum will be offering a Christmas drive
thru tour from November 14th through
December 13th. There will be a free preview
tour on November 8th, which the committee
members are welcome to attend.
The museum has revised their 2021 planning
based on the assumption that some of the
pandemic regulations will continue into the
spring/summer. Some of the larger one day
events that typically attract more than 500
attendees have been extended in duration with
smaller group sizes.
The museum will be relaunching the 1850’s
drive thru tour in the spring with some new
animation and marketing.
The museum is working on the Anne of Green
Gables package for next year and are planning
to partner with the Lucy Maud Montgomery
society. People will start the program at the
museum with a bicycle tour followed by lunch
and then a behind the scenes look at the
exhibits about filming at the museum. They will
then proceed to drive to Lucy’s Maud
Montgomery’s house for dinner.
The museum is planning to do significant
repairs to the blacksmith shop next year. The
goal is to make it a really cool hub within the
museum with a vibrant maker space where
guests can undertake metal work,
woodworking and painting. L. Gibbs requested
that the committee members provide feedback
on the kind of experiences they would like to
have in the blacksmith shop that they wouldn’t
get elsewhere. A presentation will be provided
by the museum’s Conservator in advance of
the next meeting.
Committee members to
contact L. Gibbs if they
would like to attend the
preview tour.
E. Tayles to provide the
presentation in advance of
the next meeting.

5. Sub-Committee Updates
ABRT Preparatory Sub-committee
M. Francis advised that the committee just
concluded the recruitment process for the ABRT
preparatory sub-committee.
M. Francis noted the Sub-committee is championing
the engagement of black youth in construction,
noting that there is a developer that has expressed
their commitment through a mentorship program
that was brought to the table. Durham College has
shown interest and Habitat is committed to a project
that we can have some young adults jump in right
away. There has been conversation about making it
a mandatory piece of the trades that work on
projects that they must give time to the mentorship
of these young folks. In reaching out to the black
community there is a ton of talent that are interested
in mentoring. A directory of this talent is currently
being developed.
Grammy award winner Boi-1da is going to be
engaged from his expertise by getting youth more
involved and interested.
Indigenous Relations Building Sub-committee
J. Currie advised that the committee has met a
couple times over the last few weeks and have
started to receive applications. City Council has
approved the Land Acknowledgement Statement,
which was developed in partnership with the
Mississauga’s of Scugog Island First Nation. The
City also had a proclamation for Orange Shirt day
and raised a flag that was gifted to them by Chief
LaRocca.
Public Art Sub-committee
J. St. Amant provided the update on behalf of the
Sub-committee members, as they were not in
attendance at the meeting. J. St. Amant advised tha

the Sub-committee members have been provided
with the terms of reference as well as the work plan.
The public art Sub-committee is part of the public
art policy so staff have to proceed with a lot of the
work that has to get done. The Sub-committee will
be taking on 4 or 5 more residents from Pickering to
be part of the public art committee when it’s formed.
J. St. Amant advised that judging has concluded for
the Community Banner Program, which resulted in
the selection of 34 banners from 28 artists. These
banners will go up around the City Centre upon
removal of the Remembrance Day banners. The
banners from the previous Community Banner
Program will be used for a community public art
piece.
6. Meeting Schedule – Remainder of 2020
J. St. Amant requested that the committee
members, that haven’t done so already, complete
the meeting availability survey for the dates of
November 10th and December 8th. D. Poole noted
that the committee would have quorum at both
meetings based on the responses received to date.
J. St. Amant advised that he intends to return to the
