HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 5763/00THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PICKERING BY-LAW NO. 5763/00 Being a by-law to designate the properties known as Dillingham-Lamorie House and Cleeve Home House as being of architectural and historical value or interest. WHEREAS pursuant to paragraph (a) of section 29.6 of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. 0.18 the council of a municipality is authorized to enact by-laws to designate real property, including all buildings and structures thereon, to be of architectural and historic value or interest; and WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the City of Picketing has caused to be served on the owner of the lands and premises known as the Dillingham-Lamorie House and the Cleeve Home House in the City of Picketing and upon the Minist~ of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation, notice of intention to so designate the aforesaid real properties and has caused such notice of intention to be published in the same newspaper having general circulation in the municipality for one week; and WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation has been served on the clerk of the municipality; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the City of Picketing hereby enacts as follows: There is designated as being of architectural and historical value or interest the real properties known as the Dillingham-Lamofie House and Cleeve Home House in the City of Pickering, more particular described in Schedule "A" and "B' attached hereto. The municipal solicitor is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be registered against the properties described in Schedule "A" and "B" hereto in the proper land registry office. The Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be served on the owners of the aforesaid properties and on the Mini~ry of Citizenship, Culture & Recreation and to cause notice of the passing of this by-law to be published in the same newspaper having general circulation in the municipality for one week. BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 16th day of October, 2000. b4Bmce Taylor, Clerk SCI-tEDULE "A" TO BY-LAW NUMBER 5763/00 ALL AND SINGULAR those certain parcels and tracts of lands and premises situate, lying and being in the City of Picketing, the Regional Municipality of Durham and Province of Ontario and being composed of Lot 19, Concession 2, halfway between the 3~ Concession and Finch Avenue on the west side of Brock Road. IN THE MATTER OF THE ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER 0.18 IN THE MATrER OF THE LANDS AND PREMISES MUNICIPALLY KNOWN AS PART LOT 19, CONCESSION 2 IN THE CITY OF PICKERING IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO and IN THE MATTER OF CITY OF PICKERING BY-LAW NUMBER REASON FOR DESIGNATION The Dillingham-Lamorie House is located at 1636 Arathom Court, Concession 2, Lot 19, half .way between the Third Concession and Finch Avenue on the west side of Brock Road. The property was first settled by Stephen and May Dillingham in the 1830's. Built circa 1850, possibly in the 1840's, the house is an important example of an early-to-mid nineteenth century rural residential building. IN THE MATTER OF THE ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER 0.18 and IN THE MATTER OF THE LANDS AND PREMISES MUNICIPALLY KNOWN AS SOUTH HALF OF LOT 16, CONCESSION 8 IN THE CITY OF PICKERING IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO IN THE MATTER OF CITY OF PICKERING BY-LAW NUMBER REASON FOR DESIGNATION The Cleeve Home House is located at 1940 8t~ Concession Road, Concession 8, South-half of Lot 16 in Picketing. It was constructed in 1958 and was the first house in Canada to be built of thin-shell, reinforced concrete and to dispense with bearing wall supports. Cleeve Home was a distinguished artist noted for his portraits of prominent people, his public sculptures, and his role as an art consultant to Canadian businesses. Jean was an accomplished sculptor whose works of art grace private collections across Canada.
