BY-LAW NO. 574 9/00
Being a by-law to prohibit the sounding of train
whistles at Dixie Road, Fairport Road and Whites
Road level crossings of the St. Lawrence &
Hudson Railway Line "Belleville" Subdivision.
WHEREAS PURSUANT TO section 210.138 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.45, as
amended, by-laws may be passed by the councils of local municipalities for prohibiting or
regulating, within the municipality or within any area or areas thereof, the ringing of bells, the
blowing of horns, shouting and unusual noises likely to disturb the inhabitants; and
WHEREAS Guideline Number 1 of the railway Safety Directorate of Transport Canada sets out
the appropriate procedure for the banning of whistling at public railway crossings;
NOW THEREFORE TIlE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
The sounding of train whistles is hereby prohibited at the Dixie Road, Fairport Road and
Whites Road crossing of the St. Lawrence & Hudson Railway Line more particularly
described as Mileage 188.77, 189.38 and 189.96 of the St. Lawrence & Hudson Railway
Line Belleville Subdivision.
This By-law shall come into force at the time of final approval by the St. Lawrence &
Hudson Railway Line and Transport Canada.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 2nd
2000.
