Being a by-law to establish fees for Marriage
Licenses and signing services.
WHEREAS pursuant to the Marriage Act, R.S.O. 1990, a municipality may charge any fee for a
Marriage License; and
WHEREAS pursuant to Section 220.1 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, a municipality may
pass by-laws imposing fees or charges on any class of persons for services or activities provided
or done by or on behalf of it;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. A fee of $100.00 shall be charged for each Marriage License issued.
A fee of $10.00 shall be charged each time a member of the staff of the Town of Pickering
sign a document as a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits. This fee shall apply only to
non-residents.
A fee of $10.00 shall be charged each time the Town Clerk or an Acting Clerk certify a
document as a true copy of an original document. This fee shall apply only to non-
residents.
4. This by-law shall take effect on January 1, 1999.
BY-LAW read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 7th day of December, 1998.
