A meeting of Pickering Township Council was held on MONDAY, the
NINETEENTH day of MARCH, 1962, at EIGHT o'clock p. m.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was considered:
a 1.
Board of Transport Commissioners wants a submission from the
Townsh~p re the necessity of automatic protection at C.P.R.
crossing at cherrywood Station. This was recommended by a
Coroner's Jury in connection with the death of Charles Sim
November 18, 1961. Clerk get Corner's Jury report.
2. Mr. A. W. Tyas, Secretary of School Area 2 Board, states his
Board has again gone over 1962 budget and cannot reduce, but
the Board will again meet Council if desired. See Resolutions
Nos. 56/62 and 57/62.

Ontario Water Resources Commission advises that J. C. W.
Irw~n of Wh~tevale has asked them to make a survey of the
availability of a central water supply for the Hamlet of
Whitevale, which they now submit. They recommend a further
test drilling programme, if directed by Council. Clerk
contact Mr. Irwin for information as to need and desire of
ratepayers.

FairEort United Church asks for permission to take water from
Bay Ridges Waterworks. Mr. Jefferson submitted a report that
it was a decision for Council. Turned over to Public Utilities
Committee.
5.
Bay Rid~es Ratepayers' Association asks that work be started
on the hree park areas ~n Bay R~dges as soon as possible.
Held up for establishment of Council's policy.
Ross W. Heron gives notice of appeal on his four farm properties
as no exempt~on has been granted him under Section 37 of the
Assessment Act, which provides adjustments be made to farmers
who do not benefit from certain services as much as others.
Our solicitors have matter in hand.

T. E. Austin has two taxi cab licences and stand. Now asks for
four licences formerly held by Nicholson, whom he bought out.

F. G. Hunt named as Official Observer at Planning Board meetings
by School Area 2.

MOVED by Mr. Wank, seconded by Mr. Greening, that the School
Budget for Area No. 2 be returned for re-appraisal. CARRIED

RESOLUTION NUMBER 57/62
MOVED by Mr. Deakin, seconded òy Mrs. McPherson, that School Area 2
be invited to attend a joint meeting with Council Monday, March 26,
at 8 p. ro.. to discuss the School Area 2 proposed budget. CARRIED

MOVED 'by Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mr. Greening, that T. E. Austin
be granted four Taxi Licences, in addition to the two present
licences he now holds. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 59/62
MOVLD by Mr. Deak~n, seconded by Mr. Greening, that payment be
approved of the following amounts in connection with the sitting of
the Court of Revision held on March 6. 1962:

RESOLUTION NUMBER 60/62
MOVED by Mr. Mowbray, seconded by Mr. Spang, that the Committee on
Roads and Bridges be requested to consider the establishment of a
policy for construction of sidewalks at locations where it is not
feasible to construct sidewalks as local improvements, and that
the Committee be further requested to report to Council respecting
this question. CARRIED

Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Spang, moves for leave to introduce
a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for the 1962
expenditures on roads in the Township of Pickering, ($165,000.00),
and that same now be read a first time.
Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Greening, moves that By-Law Number
2677 to provide for the 1962 expenditures on roads in the Township
of Pickering, be now read a second time, and that Council go into
Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Deakin, moves that the report of
the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2677 be adopted, and that the
said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Greening. seconded by Mr. Deakin, that the February
WELFARE accounts. amounting to $6,087.67. be paid by the Treasurer.
CARRIED
On MOTION of Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, the meeting
adjourned.
