The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Harwood Street Li~hts:

Present, 6 - 200 Watt. Yearly cost $ 102.00
Ajax have 8 -300 Watt. Yearly cost $ 188.00
Ajax recommend aJ1ò may instal.
Next year: 6 - 175 Watt Mercury Vapour Luminaries. Yearly Cost, $117.00.
Numbers 1 and 2 bulbs last 1500 hours and Hydro replace burnt bulbs free.
Numher 3 last l~ years except for valdalism. Replacements are at Township
cost of about $14.00 each.
2. Pickerin D'strict Hi~h School Board ask Councils' approval to sell and
share cost of 560,000.00 debentures for new High School at Broken Front,
Ran!;e 3, Lot 29.
3. Do~ Catcher recommends:
(1) Pound fees be increased from $1.00 to $5.00 plus $1.00 per day.
(2) License fees be increased from $4.00 to $5.00 for females
(3) Confine females while in season in buildiJ1g
(4) Require all dogs to have a license by January 15 each year.
(5) Advertise and post notices re change in pound charges
4. Buildin~ InsDector, May report:
60 Permits issued. Estimated value, $822,100.00
40 Dwellings estimated to average over $15,000.00 each.
Estimated value to date this year, $2,144,900.00
Èstimated value to date in 1957, 1,106,700.00
5. Frank MacFarlaJ1e will assist the Buildin~ InsDector as required at $1.00
per hour plus mileage.
The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Messrs. Hall. Mills. Brav. Newman. MacBean and Robson of the Health Unit
stated Pickering Village, ~Vhitby Town, Uxbridge Town, had all agreed to
turn over to the Unit 50% of septic tank permit fees and Town/of Ajax,
while having no septic tanks, agreed; that 74% of septic tanl{ inspections
were in Pickering Township; that due to extra septic tank inspections a
third Sanitary Inspector had been hireò hV the Unit and that they felt
that all Municipalities in the Unit who permit and license septic tanks
shou11 turn over to the Unit 50% of the permit fee as of_July 1, 1958.
Most other Municipalities in Unit charge $5.00 for a septic tank permit.
Mrs. Corry asked permission to have her 23 acres in South naIf Lot 12,
Concession 4, exe~pted from the Green Belt area so that she could build
herself a small home of 960 square feet. Clerk advise Mrs. Corry of the
rea1in~ of the By-Law.

J. C. E. Morley subndtted to Councillor James costs of coverage of baseball
pl avers playirg it' 'the pj,ckering Township baseball league so that the
Township could not be held liable.

RESOLUTION NUMBER 106
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that
,WHEREAS the Board of Trustees of the Pickering District High School have
applied to the municipal councils having jurisdiction in the said High
School District for the issue of debentures in an amount not exceeding
$560,000.00, repayable over a period of 20 years to provide for the cost
of construction and equipping a high school for the said district at
Lot 29, Broken Front Range 3, Township of Pickering, consistiflg of 16 rooms;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of
Pickering beir~ a wuricipality included or partly included in the said
High School District hereby approves the said application ard agrees to
assume its proper proportion of the amounts required to pay for the said
~ebentures and interest thereor and the expenses connected therewith to
...... he determined from t.ime to time ifl the manner provided by The Secondary
Schools ard Boards of Education Act, 1954. CARRIED
AGREED that Frank MacFarlane assist Building Inspector as needed at $1.00
per hour plus mileage.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2319
Mr. Pugh, seconded by fir. James, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to amend By-Law Number 2291 re appointments
to The Township of Pickering Recreation Committee, and that same now be
read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2319 to amend
By-Law Number 2291 re appointments to The Township of Pickering Recreation
Committee be row read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of
the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, secorded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that the report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-Law No. 2319 be adopted, and that the said By-~aw be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and
the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2320 (Two Readings)
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to "one the East Rouge area, and that same
pow be read a first time. -
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. MCPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2320 to
zone the East Rouge area be now read a second time, and that Council go
into Committee of the Whole thereon.
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that the accounts, amounting to
$8,917.60~ as reported by the FINANCE COMMITTEE, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that the accounts, amount-
ir~ to $2,661.24~Aas reported by the FIRE COMMITTEE for Fire Area No.1,
be adopted. ~\ _ CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that the accounts,
amounting to $157.39~as reported by the FIRE COMMITTEE for Fire Area No.2,
be adopted. CARRIED

}27,172.83, as reported by the ROAD AND BRIDGE COMMITTEE, be adopted.

CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Clerk write Messrs. Simpson a~d Brock on Harwood street lights and
recommend Mercury Vapour street lights.
2. Clerk contact Secretary of High School Board re Vocational School
instead of academic High School.
3. Clerk amend Dog By-Law so that females in season will be confined to
a buildin~.
4. Clerk have septic tark By-Law for next meeting.
5. Road Committee meet at Pickering Village next Thursday evening.
R. Advise Mr. Baker of Liverpool Ratepayers' Association that 6 Township
lots in the area are not suitable for levelling for baseball diamond.
7. Advise Proctor and Redfern of A. Dand's complaint about drainage from
Jaybell Crescent onto Golf Course.
