A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the TWENTY-FOURTH day of MARCH, 1958
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Ontario Water Resources Commission, report on Duffjn's Creek survey re
pollution:
(a) Township - agriculture in nature only
(b) Pickering Village - watch storm sewers
(c) Ajax - Pollution low
2. Metro Toronto Conservation Authority, report on Duffin's Creek. The
Authority agreed to prepare a map of area between Concession 3 and
Highway 401, consider acquisition of certain properties which flood
m6st frequently, consider certain lands for park purposes, and
desi~nate benefitting Municipalities.
3. Villa~e of Markham will discourage private persons dumping in our
Dump.
1. Oshawa Hydro are preparing submission re Harwood Street Lights.
5. Markham Fair Board requested an increased grant over $50.00 given in
1957.
~. Our solicitor's final report on Consumers' Gas Com»any assessment
appeal. The action was successful, so we get 50% of their assessment
on boundary roads with Ajax.
7. Notice of University of Toronto training for Fire Chiefs, April 23,
24 and 25. Fee, t8.00.
R. Robert H. Browr, requesting information re septic tanks in Plan 612.

9. A. J. Thom»son reported Wilcox Wrecking Yard;h:d been told to clean
up both yards within 7 days.
10. Owners of Lot 65. Plan 320, request letter of tolerance
because sideyards of house lA" too narrow.
11. Health Unit request that no septic tank permits be issued until lot
properly drained. We are at present issuing septic tank permits
with the building permit.
The followiJ1g PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Apthur O'Connor and delegation of seven submitted a petition of 87
oQners in the Audley area, asking that the Audley Road be paved in
preference to the Westney Road.
~ Mr. Owen and delegation of eight again asked that the 2! miles of
Westney Road be completed to Number 7 Highway.
3. Mr. Miller, of Lot 198, Plan 612, stated he now felt that his septic
tank would work properly if the surface water was drained off his lot.

Mr..Bran~t, of Lot 197, Plan 612, stated his septic tank was 0 eratin

Mr.S. Kaskiw stated there was a fall of 8 to 12 inches from rear door of
Mr. Miller's house to rear of lot, but agreed to meet our Engineer on
the lot and do any draining that he considered necessary. The Reeve
advised him that no more building permits would be issued to him until
the drainage was satisfactor;i:ly completefl in the area of Lot 197,
Plan 612.

Mr. Crichton, of Riverside, asked for information re report that certain
low lards of Duffin's Creek were to be appropriated by Metro Conservation
Authority. See Mr. IJaycock of Ajax, who is on this Authority Committee.

Mr. Fair~rieve asked Council to proceed with improving
Mr. Wilson, a licensed bailiff living in the Township
to license bailiffs for $50.00 to $100.00 per year aDd
to residents only. Council agreed to consider.
AGREED that our Solicitor assist our Assessment Commissioner on all three
appeals to be heard by the Ontario Municipal Board.

BY -LAW NUMBER 2300
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of theTownship of Pickering to authorize the Reeve andClerk to sign
ar agreement with Chesterhill Developments Limited and the Township of
Pickering and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2300 to authorize
the Reeve and Clerk to sign an agreement with Chesterhill Developments Limited
and the Township of Pickering be now read a second time, and that Council go
into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the B,y-Law as read.
Mr. Stewart, secondefl by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee
of theWhole on By-I~w No. 2300 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read aThird time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the
Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
On MOTION of Mr. Scott, the meeting adjourned to a Road Committee meeting.
