HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 30, 1958 MUNICIPAL BUILDING BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the THIRTEENTH day of JANUARY, 1958, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening. PRESENT: Wm. G. Lawson, iri the Chair J. Sherman Scott Edgar James Mrs. J. McPherson Robert L. Stewart L. T. Johnston, Clerk MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Minutes of meeting held January 6, 1958, be adopted. CARRIED The following CORRESPONDENCE was read. 1. Proctor and Redfern advise cost of 250 extra feet on West Rouge extension $1,590.00. 2. . TownshiD of North York ask Council to endorse their resolution that "more than one family houses" be assessed according to income except for pensioners. 3. Solicitors for owners of Lots 84 and 85. Plan 320,asking for a letter of tolerance because house is 4* inches too close to line at one corner. 4. A"ax Pickerin or Retarded Children request month for 10 months for 8 Township child- Referred to Finance Committee. 5. Ontario County Soil and CroD ImDrovement Association 1957 Report. 6. Proctor and Redfern advise that Marino Construction Company will not accept the tender agreement of $3,348.00 plus $600.00 additional for winter work after January 14th. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard. 1. Bud Norton spoke for the Road men and asked for an increase of 15¢per hour for all men. ~ 2. Reeve Fry and DeDuty Reeve Btwlrftsllier of the Village of Markham asked permission to use our garbage dump, stating they now have 8 to 10 loads per week. The Reeve advised them that the cost of maintaining dump was about $2,250.00 per year. 3. W. H. Ellicott stated he did not wish to carryon the Weed Inspection and asked for an increase in salary for caretaking Municipal Buildings. Messrs. Pugh and Lawson to see Mr. Ellicott. 4. Mr. Godson stated cost of improving 300 feet of Old Trespass Road $1,500.00; that there was unlimited land for Township dump and that he required a chain saw, garage doors and heating of garageJ ~stimates would be ready in one week. 5. Arthur Carlton asked that his salary as Garbage Controller be increased from $1,200.00 to $1,710.00 per year. Mr. Stewart, that Mr. Godson be authnrized immediately for use in clearing brush, eto. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 12 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that, as the north east corner of the house located OP Lots 84 and 85 in Plan 320, is erected only three . feet seven and one-half inches (3'7~") from the easterly boundary of Lot 85, and as the Building By-Law requires a sideyard of 4 feet, a letter of. tolerance be granted for such building by this Council. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2284 Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township' of Pickering to amend By-Law Number 2223 and further regulate the erection and to provide for the safety of buildings, and that same now be read a first time. Mr.. Scott, seconded. by Mrs. Jean McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2284 tó amend 'By-Law Number 2223 and further regulate the erection and to provide for the àafety of buildings be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that By-Law Number 2285 to authorize the construction of a 6" watermain as a local improvement be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2285 be adopted, and that the said By-Eaw be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2286 (Two Readings) Mr; Stewart, veconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to authorize the borrowing of $15,215.00 for the construction of a 6" watermain as a local improvement and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Stewart, seconded by' Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2286 to authorize the borrowing of $15,215.00 for the construction of a 6" watermain as a local improvement be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. BY-LAW NUMBER 2287 Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of PicKering to appoint a member from Council to the South Ontario County Health Unit and that same now be read a first time. Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2287 to appoint a member from Council to the South Ontario County Health Unit be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mrs. McPbèrson, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2287 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2288 to authorize an application to the Ontario Municipal Board for a Quieting Order be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2290 to amend By-Law Number 2232 re Township of Pickering Crown Game Preserve Commission members be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2291 to appoint members to the Township of Pickering Recreation Committee be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
