MUNICIPAL B U I L DIN G BROUGHAM PURSUANT TO By-Law Number 2276, the·Members-Elect of the Municipal Council of the Township' of Pickering met in the Council Chambers on MONDAY, the SIXTH day of JANUARY, 1958, at the hour of EIGHT o'clock in the evening. PRESENT: William G. Lawson - Reeve-Elect J. ~herman Scott - Deputy Reeve-Elect Sidney S. J. Pugh - Councillor-Elect, Ward 1 Edgar R. James - Councillor-Elect, Ward 2 Mrs. Jean McPherson Councillor-Elect, Ward 3 H. Ross Hawthorne - Councillor-Elect, Ward 4 Robert L. Stewart - Councillor-Elect, Ward 5 Lloyd T. Johnston - Clerk The Members-Elect, having taken the Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Declaration of Qualification on the day of Nomination, took before the Clerk their respective Declarations of Office, and took their seats at the Council Board, the Reeve in the Chair. Rev. H. S. SheDherd, of Pickering, conducted the devotional address and Reeve Lawson thanked him for his message. Reeve Lawson stated that despite certain clouds on the economic front, he expected Pickering Township would continue to go forward in 1958 in population, assessment, services and industry. He expected another water pumping plant to be erected, improved roads, especially in subdivisions, advancement in care of drainage, hoped to reduce the mill rate, have a simple proceedure By-Law, and by means of getting more information into the hands of the Councillors before meetings, be able to call less meetings and adjourn all meetings by 11 P. M. Messrs. Scott. Pu£h and Hawthorne spoke briefly. MOVED by Mr. James, sec.onded by Mr. Pugh, that Minutes of Meeting held December 30, 1957, be adopted. DUnham requested Township make Old Trespass Road passable for 200 feet to get into his proposed building lot. 5. County Council have passed By-Law which, when approved, will require building set-back of 35 feet from a 66 foot road, or 25 feet from 86 . foot, or wider, road. - 2 - 6. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2277 to appoint a member Qt Council to the Board of Directors of the Ajax and Pi~ering General Hospital for the year 1958, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. Jean McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2279 to appoint two members to the Metropolitan Toronto Conservation Authority, be now read a seoond time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Soott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that the report of the Committee of the Wòole on By-Law Number 2279 be adopted, and that the said Hf-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. D:VED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that the Township Engineer proceed ith the following work sUbject to the approval of the District Municipal Engineer, ~partment of Highways: THAT the low tender of the Claude Smith Company be oeepted as follows: We hereby list the sum of .50¢ (Fifty Cents) per cu. yed. for crushing gravel, chips and separating sand in any quantities you require to your specifications: 3/4" screen for gravel 3/8" screen for chips 1/4" minus for sand at both pits. AND THAT Mr. Godson order the following: 3/4" Gravel: 20,000 cu. yds. at the Soden Pit 10,000 cu. yds. at the 5th Concession Pit 3/8" Chips: 2,000 cu. yds. at the 5th Concession Pit Sand, 1/4" : 2,000 cu. yds. at the 5th Concession Pit. Äpplegath to leasè to the Corporation of the Township of Pickering ,e p~operty at the south end of Rosebank, immediately north of 401, for a period six months commencing on the Twentieth day of November, 1957, and terminating the Twentieth day of May, 1958, at a rent of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) per nth; provided that the Agreement may be terminated by either party on Three nths written notice, for the purpose of piling sand for winter distribution to ads.
