PURSUANT TO By-Law Number 2276, the·Members-Elect of the Municipal Council of
the Township' of Pickering met in the Council Chambers on MONDAY, the SIXTH
day of JANUARY, 1958, at the hour of EIGHT o'clock in the evening.
PRESENT: William G. Lawson - Reeve-Elect
J. ~herman Scott - Deputy Reeve-Elect
Sidney S. J. Pugh - Councillor-Elect, Ward 1
Edgar R. James - Councillor-Elect, Ward 2
Mrs. Jean McPherson Councillor-Elect, Ward 3
H. Ross Hawthorne - Councillor-Elect, Ward 4
Robert L. Stewart - Councillor-Elect, Ward 5

The Members-Elect, having taken the Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen
Elizabeth II, and the Declaration of Qualification on the day of Nomination,
took before the Clerk their respective Declarations of Office, and took their
seats at the Council Board, the Reeve in the Chair.
Rev. H. S. SheDherd, of Pickering, conducted the devotional address and Reeve
Lawson thanked him for his message.
Reeve Lawson stated that despite certain clouds on the economic front, he expected
Pickering Township would continue to go forward in 1958 in population, assessment,
services and industry. He expected another water pumping plant to be erected,
improved roads, especially in subdivisions, advancement in care of drainage,
hoped to reduce the mill rate, have a simple proceedure By-Law, and by means of
getting more information into the hands of the Councillors before meetings, be
able to call less meetings and adjourn all meetings by 11 P. M.
Messrs. Scott. Pu£h and Hawthorne spoke briefly.
MOVED by Mr. James, sec.onded by Mr. Pugh, that Minutes of Meeting held
December 30, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED

4. Mr. G. DUnham requested Township make Old Trespass Road passable for 200
feet to get into his proposed building lot.
5. County Council have passed By-Law which, when approved, will require
building set-back of 35 feet from a 66 foot road, or 25 feet from 86 .
foot, or wider, road.

6. There will be a meeting of Trustees of Schools north of Concession 3 and
all persons interested in School Areas tn Brouglt¡én Township Hall Wednesday,
January 15th, at 8 P. M.

appoint two members to the Metropolitan Toronto Conservation Authority, be now
read a seoond time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

the Twentieth day of May, 1958, at a rent of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) per
nth; provided that the Agreement may be terminated by either party on Three
nths written notice, for the purpose of piling sand for winter distribution to

Planning Board, Court of Revision, etc.
